Bathing/cooling out in winter- anti-sweat sheet??

I haven’t had a horse that I’ve ridden in cold temps (aka not S.FL.) for probably 10 years. The barn my guy is boarded at only blankets for under 20, so he’s already getting a bit fuzzy… (this horse was never in S.FL. he’s new)
What’s the best method to dry them off after a bath (not often, but sometimes necessary!) or after a long workout? Anti-sweat sheet under a wool cooler? Remove the anti-sweat when it’s “soaked up” a lot of the moisture?

Brands that you like would be appreciated, budget isn’t a big issue, but they need to come in an 85-86!

Thanks!

I am in love with the Bucas Power Cooler. . . Best money I’ve spent in years. They are not cheap, but last well, and the beauty of them is that if you need to put a blanket on over the top of the cooler before the horse dries, you can. The are amazing!

I just bought the new Rambo Dry Rug and I absolutely LOVE IT! I use it under a wool cooler and found that my horse will dry off completely after a bath in about 10 or 15 minutes and the Dry Rug holds the moisture so I don’t have to pull it off for my horse to continue drying. Here is a link to it on smartpak.

My guys don’t get clipped in the winter and it takes FOREVER for them to dry… I do a a Dover ‘chill chaser’ under a fleece or wool, takes forever, but at least they usually ‘look’ warm. May have to look into that rambo though- looks interesting!

Following this because I have a fuzzy horse and our weather is getting cooler. I don’t care for fleece because of all the static. I’ve been looking at wool, but I don’t have a bunch of money to spend and I don’t want something cheap, so I’m kind of stuck.

I use this after a workout whenever the weather is below 45 degrees: Weathabeeta fleece cooler with attached neck cover (you can just leave the neck cover laying on his back if you don’t want to use it, or if its warm)

The fleece wicks away the moisture to the top of the cooler, So it feels damp to the touch, where moisture can evaporate. Underneath, your horse feels dry very quickly. And this cooler has surcingles so you can put horse in his stall wearing it.

Regarding static - just spray the cooler with Staticguard. Problem solved.

I keep static guard in my tack box. i spray my horse down directly with it sometimes. Last winter after I pulled his blanket off and started brushing him with a nice horsehair brush, the static got him and he pulled back and broke his halter. So now his blankets, coolers, and his body all get sprayed with it. Thankfully he’s not bothered by aerosol cans.

Where did you purchase your Buca Cooler?

I use a Centaur Turbo-Dry, I have the regular blanket, but I regret not getting the full necked version. It wicks moisture very quickly, and is one of my absolute favorites. I also use it as a layer under my stable blanket when it gets super cold as well. It’s a great sheet, and it washes beautifully! highly, highly recommend it.

I just spent about 5 minutes trying to find blankets, coolers, or the brand Bucas on your site. Holy cannoli that site is hard to use. Tagging does not equal navigation. Top navigation disappears when you try to click on one of the flyover options (Brand or Product Category) in Chrome on Win8. And there is no search box. Finally found my way into a page with side “navigation” which was really just more tagging. Never found a piece of horse clothing. Order of items down side makes no sense. Please please please fix this as I’d love to find a new small shop to frequent and am interested in that cooler as well.

Is a trace clip an option? My boy gets really sweaty during winter workouts and I tend to keep him clipped partially or completely during the winter and blanket appropriately. Currently I have been avoiding the issue as I am hoping to hold off as long as possible, but I am planning on a trace clip to start off. I also don’t mind if he looks like a patchy monkey, so I think I am going to get creative this year

This may be old school…a rub down with towels to get the moisture off and hair fluffed so air can circulate to the wet skin works great. They’ll dry fast, and appreciate the body massage at the same time. Keep the blanket(s) covering the part of the horse you’re not working on so the body stays warm.

I usually sponge the sweat marks with vetrolin and water, sweat scrape, then toss a cooler over it. Horses in work usually end up with a trace, or bib clip.

Also old school, Irish knit under square wool cooler.

What a timely thread - I’ve been thinking about one of those full neck version and was looking for a user review!

Now for the 64K question - is it really less static/shocky than other coolers like they claim?

(also, anyone who wants one in black, jeffers carries them so free shipping/no tax)

What kind of Irish Knit do you use? How are they different from say a ‘Chill Chaser’ which is what I use from Dover.

I haven’t found that they’re as staticy as my fleece coolers! I love mine, honestly do, and so does my pony! (my 18.2 hand pony…) I haven’t used it in a year, obviously, but from what I can remember we didn’t have any sort of static issues!!

I didn’t find the Bucas Power Cooler either. I had a bit of a hard time navigating the site as well. It’s visually appealing, but not the easiest to find things.

I was wondering if maybe the website is newer, or if the Bucas is a new product and just hasn’t been added yet.

I’ve found a few Bucas power coolers on ebay and a quick google search does yield some results.
