Anybody know of a good one that can grind at least a half cup at a time?
how about a manual grinder, no batteries required?
I admit it, I never even knew they made a battery powered coffee grinder.
Do they?
I have to say that none of my electric coffee grinders will take a full cup of anything.
That’s mostly why I gave up grinding flax. My horse gets whole flax, and she is still shiny.
Whole flax all the way!
their have been 12vdc versions for decades… used on boats or motor homes
Ah of course.
@clanter Thanks- can’t find a battery one that does a decent amount so I ordered this one. I prefer to grind because the digestibility of the nutrients, especially the fatty acids, is limited when fed whole.
Triple Crown sells a 20-25 lb bag of stabilized ground flax that is good for 2 years. It’s maybe $30.
Have you considered a cordless food processor?
My tiny coffee grinders, electric, died a hot, smelly death, if I tried to grind more than two Full cups at a time. I had to not fill the measuring cup to the top and only do one cup, wait 5 minutes, then another cup.
For a horse sized quantity I’d either go manual or buy a commercial version.
Well the manual grinder arrived and is a bust for flax seed. It won’t adjust fine enough to grind. So either the seeds fall through unground or they won’t go through at all. Bummer- good thing it wasn’t much money. Checked out the TC ground flax. $50 a bag. Might be worth it. No more grinding at the house.
I grind a cup at a time in my Oster blender. Works a treat, and the blender has been at it for some years. I have replaced the blades several times, but that’s it!
Prior to this, I tried every kind of coffee grinder that there was- just certain that was what was needed. Nope. It is far more simple than that!
This is what i do and my two are shiny.
Just to clarify, my coffee grinder has been working great for years. A few months ago, the immediate area where I have my horse and donkeys (at my house) had an electrical issue and there’s no longer power and likely won’t get restored. Thus the desire for a battery operated grinder for flax seed. Not debating the ground/whole flax issue.
Is that your local price, or are you just looking at the TC website? If the latter, hit up your feed store and price it out. The $30 ish mentioned above is generally what it costs when you buy it locally.

I pay about $30 at my feed store for a 25 lb bag - so much easier going this route over grinding!
My local feed stores don’t carry TC products.
Then you might price out omega shine, which seems to be carried more widely. It’s more expensive than the triple crown product, but probably less than shipping the triple crown stuff.
Local feed mills sometimes produce their own stabilized ground flax as well.
Woo Hoo!! One of the local farm supply stores CAN get the TC ground flax. I still can’t believe it. It’s supposed to be there tomorrow. Yippee! (It’s the little things…)
