Battery trimmers?

I know there have been previous discussions, but there’s so much change in what’s available from year to year–anyone have recommendations for a good relatively heavy duty grass/weed trimmer?
Bonus if it takes a blade as well.

And any warning of brands to stay away from would be appreciated.

Love my Dewalt string trimmer. Have had it a couple of years now and will never go back to gas. There’s a blade attachment available for it but I don’t have it. Also love my Dewalt chain saw, hedge Clippers, pole trimmer, and circular saw

Ditto.

We have two battery powered DeWalts. One 18v and one with a big battery that is awful heavy. We do have the blade attachment and it works swell

Another vote for DeWalt. I have the flexvolt version with the blade.

I don’t find it unduly heavy, and the battery usually lasts longer than I do.

Love my Worx trimmer, although I’m not sure if it can take a blade. I have a few tools in the Worx line so I can switch the batteries around.

@Ghazzu - I hope it’s okay to add a question to this discussion. I am 5’3" and need a battery trimmer that can be handled by me, a shortie. Current gas trimmer that DH purchased, and no longer can use after developing COPD, is too unwieldy for my height.

So, how tall are those of you recommending the DeWalt and Worx trimmers, and how adjustable are they? Thanks!

Most of our stuff is DeWalt, but we have the GreenWorks battery trimmer. Works great. A battery last about 30 min, so we have two. The other one is fully charged by the time the one you are using dies, so no waiting.

If you are shorter like me, it is a tad longer than I would like, but not unworkable.

I have a Stihl. It is wonderful-fairly light weight and not too long. It has string, or you can use little plastic blades that are easy to swap out.

I’m 5’ 4" and don’t find it too big for me. The handle on the string trimmer is adjustable

Fellow shortie (5’4’’ if I take a deep breath AND am wearing boots)

I did a ton of research first and then brain dumped it after my purchase, so may not have all the deets correct. I got a Ryobi battery weed eater, it does take attachments (sold separately) for trimmer and I think hedge trimmer and maybe even a blower. I went with it because it was either brushed or brushless, can’t remember, I think brushless. The battery lasts a really long time as long as you aren’t abusing it (non stop full power) as just a medium trigger squeeze gets most of my weed eating needs accomplished. I’ve used it for about 45 minutes at a time before it died on me and honestly I was bagging the crap out of it on really tall grass. It also fits my height and I love that it doesn’t weigh a ton. Very little to no vibration, with gas weed eaters my wrists and hands would tingle and itch after use every time. Charges quickly and has a button you can press to check charge if it’s been sitting. Holds a charge. I like it. Zero complaints. My 6’1’’ Dad uses it too and he has no complaints either. He got a heavier duty battery one at the same time. I got it at The Home Depot, it was not expensive. It either came with or has a separate unit to replace the head so you can use short bits of the whatever, cord or cable or whatever the string is called, instead of wrapping it, I just precut some and carry with me and replace as needed.

I have a battery Black and Decker weed eater because it was on Marketplace for $5 since it didn’t have a battery and I have a B&D battery chainsaw, so I snapped it up. I can’t remember offhand if it’s 18v or 20v. It is light and does a nice job on grass, but that’s about it. It’s pretty wimpy. When I have to do some seriously thick grass or weeds I go get the gas Stihl.

I think the other brands of battery weedeater perform much better than mine, just wanted to throw that out there if anyone was looking at it.

Got the deWalt yesterday, since it had reccs above and I have other deWalt tools that I like.
It’s on the heavy side, but I lost energy before the battery did, so I think it will be suitable.
Got into some pretty dense weeds with it, too.

Thanks to @Ghazzu for starting this topic and all who contributed.

@TheJenners - I just looked at the Home Depot web site; the local store has many options in stock. I’d really appreciate you if you could tell me what model # you bought, when you get a chance. Thanks!

I dont know model number BUT here are some pics to get you started! It lives on my front porch this time of year.

I’m like 90 percent certain it’s this one

Thanks!

I am much taller than you, so I can’t really comment directly on that; however, I think you might be able to see one in person at Home Depot (I ordered mine online)

The Flexvolt version is heavier and a bit more unwieldy than the other models.
