Baucher bits-

Asking about Baucher bits. Are they a bit you might use on a green horse in training, or a mature horse who needs refinement? What does this bit do that others do not?

It’s a bit I’ll try if a horse is being fussy with contact. The horses that like it really like it.

It’s more stable than a loose ring or eggbutt snaffle, so some horses who don’t like a lot of movement appreciate it.

Neue Schule did some really nice analysis of where different bits put pressure and showed that the baucher actually has negative poll pressure, which may be another reason some horses like it.

If you’re showing rated dressage, heads up that the rules changed recently on the acceptable length and a lot of baucher bits don’t meet the new specs.
