I’m looking for a plain bay mare Sporthorse with a unique dollar sign brand. She would be in her late teens now. She was my first horse and had to be rehomed after I stubbornly held onto her for several years even though she was never going to be riding sound again. I gave her away to a family in Lancaster, PA to be their grandchildren’s pet. In light of all of this recent stuff with Lefever and the awful people out there, I can’t stop thinking about my old mare. I wouldn’t even post on here except she had a very unique brand so maybe, I’m hoping against hope, that someone may know where she ended up.
Her name was Mona (“Goodbye Blue Monday”) and she had a dollar sign in a circle on her left haunch that I’ve never seen before. Plain bay, 15.3. She was always really solid, built like a tank (which is the only reason my 6 foot self didn’t look ridiculous on her) and went way better to the left than the right. Before anyone jumps down my throat about how I could callously give my horse away, I want to say that I held on to her for years. She went to New Bolton after months of troubleshooting lameness and we found a cyst in her coffin bone. They could have operated, but it would have been thousands and not covered by insurance because it was experimental at the time. I tried to donate her to several programs just to walk/trot or work with disabled children, but she had a nasty spin that would have you on the ground before you could blink so she wasn’t safe for any program like that. I loved her in spite of all of her quirks, but she was a tough one to place. She looked a little like a moose/donkey (I say that in the most affectionate way possible!) so she wasn’t exactly prime breeding material. I found what I thought was a lovely family to take her to be a pet.
If anyone has ever seen a mare like her (she had no white on her) or if they think additional pictures might help, I would be more than happy to dig them up and scan them in tomorrow. I tried to email the family that took her a few years ago but the email address is no good anymore. Again, I realize I should have gotten a contract, etc, but hindsight is 20/20 and I was only 19 so try to understand.
Any help or info is appreciated - I know it’s a long shot but I had to try.
