Beagle and basset pack videos

For those of you who are interested in following hounds on foot, you might be interested to see some of the videos we’ve put up at http://houndwelfare.wordpress.com

We’ve got two beagling videos featuring the Clear Creek Beagles and one of the bassets from the Sandanona Harehounds. You can find them on the site by scrolling down the home page; entering “beagles” or “bassets” in the search box on the home page; or checking out our video archive (the link is at the top of the home page). Enjoy!

Shoot!

Can’t watch with dial up…:sadsmile::mad::cry::cry::cry:

Awesome! I’ve never actually seen all bassets before!

Glad you’re enjoying it! The bassets are really fun to watch (and to follow). Not that many people get to see them in a working pack, so I thought our fellow foxhunters and dog-lovers (not to mention the beaglers and basset followers on COTH) might enjoy seeing them in action and in full cry–especially considering how many of us are having to hunt vicariously due to the extreme winter this year.

We post a fair amount of video at the blog. Now that the season is coming to an end, we’ll probably start posting more videos of puppies and hound training, but in the fall we’ll start up again with scenes from the hunt field. And there is a little more of the hunt season remaining, of course, so we might still be able to get some nice footage of the foxhounds!

So… are those bassets taller than “normal” basset hounds? (Like the Hush Puppies basset? :D)

They look long-legged to me - much like our beagles look more long-legged than typical house beagles.

I don’t know about the exact height difference, but the hunting bassets definitely appear leggier to me than the Hush Puppies basset or ones you’d see at a show like Westminster. But they’re still cute–and, boy, do they have great noses and voices!

Basset types

Hunting Bassets can vary in type from the more longer legged English-style, to the AKC classic “Hush Puppy” type (www.threecreekbassets.com) to the French-style Petits Bassets Griffons Vendéens(www.skycastlefrenchhounds.com)to the Bleu de Gascogne - Ashland Bassets in
Warrenton VA hunt several of the Bleu. There are excellent pictures of different packs at the National Basset Trials in Aldie VA on Karen Meyers photo website and you can see some of the different types, but all hunting. http://www.klmimages.com/packtrials

Gack - do not compare the flatulent, corpulent house basset to the sleek, fit hunting basset.

Them’s fightin’ words.

Went out with the footpack on Sunday and good googly moogly did we have a great day.

Rabbits everywhere - and the hounds had their noses to the ground and worked those lines pretty hard - and boy did they sound wonderful. A beautiful baritone.

Except for one - who is a squeaker. But when she speaks she’s never wrong. Ever. She just gets a little excited and emits a squeak now and then.

Can’t wait for the field trials in April.

New beagling video
