I feed 1/2 bottle of Guinness stout to my driving pony that has mild anhydrosis. I was reading recently, I think on Facebook but somewhere that was somewhat questionable, that trainers give race horses a stout beer on race day or every day depending on the horse. Is this true? Wouldn’t the alcohol mess up drug testing?
I don’t know how it would work with drug testing, but Zenyatta and Tapit were sometimes given Guinness.

I heard they do that in Ireland, give the broodmares Guiness for nutrition.

Ethanol is a class 2 prohibited substance. No one is giving their horse a Guinness on race day. Other times in training, no problem.
There are lots of weird old wives tales about giving horses liquor when racing, hence the restriction.
