Beet pulp pellets VS shreds- volume question....

So, belatedly, as with most things for me, I have discovered that I can buy pellets MUCH cheaper than shreds. My question, for those of you who are familiar is- what volume (not weight) equals what- after soaking?

Are pellets 50% more dense, and therefore, use half the volume?

I know I can go with trial and error, but, hey- GOT COTH??

You feed by weight, not volume. And weigh before soaking.

(pellets swell up about 3x as much as shreds IMEX)

Yeah, I would go with pellets tripling in volume. The longer you leave them to soak – or if you use hot water, the more volume you get (up to a point)

I found this :

http://www.mcness.com/sites/default/files/file_attach/DriedBeetPulpUH03.pdf

bulk density of beet pulp pellets is 38-42 lb/cuft
bulk density of shreds (unpelleted) is 11-16 lb/cuft

So pellets are roughly 3-4 times as dense as shreds. But you should still be making the switch based on weight, not volume.
