Hey guys so the issue I’m having is I’m a visual learner and the videos on YouTube of these dressage tests (moreso he novice) make it very hard for me to visualize the tests. For novice most of the videos are from the judges tent side and I’m having issues mentally flipping the directions in my head. Does anyone have videos from the entrance side so it visually looks like I’ll be riding it? I have to SEE the course several times before I can get it. Reading the letters and directions is very hard for me to remember and visualize.
Have you tried using a white board and writing the test out?
Or mark off a small area and walk it on foot.
Gets my vote, spent many a happy time in the garden ‘riding’ my tests.
I have a video of the novice A test. I will post a link when I get home.
I watch the test on youtube as many views as I can get, and then draw it out on paper a few times. I say the movements to myself out loud and draw dashed lines to do the patterns. It seems to stick well in my head.
Well, it’s on my trainer’s facebook page, so I will have to get it from her.
I watch 1 or 2 tests before me on show day. I do the same for show jumping, watching more than 1 or 2.
Why don’t you have your trainer read it to you while they film from a? That way you can learn the test, and see where you can improve your own ride
I would get a small Breyer or similar model horse and make up a dressage arena on butcher paper, and go through the tests that way.
