Bell Boot Recommendations

I’ve been scouring tack store sites for weeks trying to decide on an appropriate pair of bell boots… this shouldn’t be all consuming haha!

Horse has one front foot that is a bit more upright than the other (very very mild club). My farrier has done an excellent job shoeing this foot. He’s given that foot quite a bit of extra support and has recommended bell boots to try and avoid that shoe getting thrown. I agree with him as my horse does tend to clip it every so often with his hind hoof. Which bell boots work the best in this type of situation?

I’ve got just the plain old ribbed rubber with Velcro closure on him for now. All of the bell boots out there that have a solid (hard plastic, etc) outer are the no-turns and don’t look like they’ll be long enough for my purposes (need them to hit the ground at the back).

Anyone successfully using a particular brand/style for this purpose? Thanks so much!

The only bell boot I’ve ever gotten that didn’t fall apart immediately was the Professional’s choice ones. I get them in XL and they do hit the ground. I don’t have my tall heel guy anymore but he sounds similar to yours.

I personally like the soft neoprene ones best; they’ve held up the longest for me and don’t cause any fungus during rainy season

I have a horse with similar front feet that has already pulled shoes and will clip himself, so he now lives in bell boots. He goes out in plain rubber velcro ones and has not pulled a shoe in the field since. I’ve tried the professional choice, which were not long enough on the more upright foot. I had a pair of Le Mieux pro shell ones which were great except that they were bought for my old horse and were not quite big enough to go around without a gap, but they did cover properly. I’ve settled on Shires Arma rubber bell boots with the fur on top to prevent rubs. They fit both feet and come down to the ground on the slightly more upright foot.

I have gone to pull on gummy bell boots for my guy. He thinks velcro is a great toy! Although he is not quite 15.1 I had to get XL boots in most brands (KL Select seem to be the best)

I’ve had good luck with the Davis bell boots. They are reasonably priced and last a long time, at least for my guy. He wears them 24x7. They are long enough to hit the ground and loose enough to allow air circulation.

I use to use pull-on gummy ones until my horse needed size 4 shoes and I repeatedly split the brand new gummy ones (in the largest available size, and that fit his size 3 feet) as I tried to pull them on.

I like these. You can adjust the size a lot. They do run true to size; I feel most other bell boots run small. An extra-large in these is gigantic. They are not great in wet conditions. They hold water and get heavy.

I was just coming here to post the same recommendation. The neoprene ones seem to be a tad longer (from top toward the ground), are easy to clean and don’t cause any sores or rubs on the back of the pasterns. I get the Horze brand, usually off Amazon. Of course, if a 2-year-old decides to chew on them, they will eventually tear. Ask me how I know this.
