Bell boot rubs

I know there are other threads about this topic, but they’re rather old. I’m hoping there are some new bell boots on the market over the past few years that might work.

My delicate hothouse flower has to wear Equifit socks AND bell boots. That puts the pull-ons out of the question. Has anyone found bell boots with velcro that don’t rub? I’ve tried several and we’re really struggling!

Yes armas ! They feel like gummy pulls ons but have velcro. I am on my second shoeing cycle with them on 24/7 on my sensitive chestnut. Even in -21c they still feel great!

I have found if you go up a size you don’t get rubs.

@Against_All_Odds2 how do those hold up? I find either the rubber gets torn up too easily or the velcro gives out. So far haven’t found one with good rubber AND good velcro.

FWIW, I use Davis and Eskadron boots. Eskadron makes the best velcro, Davis makes the sturdiest boot.

As I said I am on my second shoeing cycle with my first pair and they have held up well. He has lost one once in turn out but he’s a psycho so not surprised. I put the same one back on. I do not take them off. We have skunky weather in Ontario. Lots of mud or deep freeze divots and not rubs in the 10-11ish weeks.

I will buy another pair when these give out. I anticipate the life span is 6 months but time will tell.

I’ll try them! But I can’t find any sizing information. My guy is 16.1, good bone, big feet. Any idea if “full” would fit him, or would he need XL? Don’t know if your horse is a comparable size, but I’m hoping you have insight.

@Obsidian_Fire Thanks, you’re wonderful!

My preference is the neoprene bell-style (not the no-turn). My horse needs to wear them in turnout on the hinds when he’s got his winter corks in, otherwise he ends up stepping on himself.

They stay relatively soft and pliable in the freezing cold, don’t spin around.

These are the ones I have, which seem to be the only ones I can find around here: https://www.bahrsaddlery.com/horze-pro-bell-neoprene-boots-horze-pro-bell-neoprene-boots.html

We have sensitive boys and only use these:

They look like they have a ridge around the fetlock area in the photo, but they don’t in real life. Don’t confuse them with the cheaper PVC Centaur boots, those are easier to find and less expensive but I suspect they’ll be stiffer and more apt to rub.

They’re pretty durable as well. They’re definitely a softer boot but my horse has been wearing the same pair for months with no issue or damage to the boots.
