Bell Boots that don't rub?! Help!

I have a very thin-skinned OTTB that has to wear bell boots 24/7. The issue is I haven’t been able to find a brand that doesn’t cause rubs AND are durable enough for turnout. Right now he is in the fleece lined Arma boots, but they are 2 seconds from destruction.

We’ve tried:
-Davis
-Italian pull ons

  • Davis No-turns
  • PC No-turns
  • Fleece lined Arma

Any and all recommendations are welcome. I am thinking that my best option may just be to have multiple pairs of the fleece lined boots on rotation so they don’t get mud logged, but this is expensive because they maybe last 2 weeks.

Look into GatorBootz by ThinLine. They are super tough and they don’t rub. They are fitted by the size of the hoof, not the size of the pastern. They "hold onto " the hoof.

They have a funny latch on them so practice opening/shutting them off your horse to make sure you can do it

I have an OTTB with the same issue; extremely sensitive skin. I use bell boots with genuine sheepskin, NOT the synthetic fuzz stuff. The real sheepskin doesn’t irritate, doesn’t lump up and seems to stay a little cleaner than the synthetic stuff.

You will need a few pairs though…you’ll need to wash when they get too dirty for ordinary brushing (when dry) to get really clean. Also be careful with the soap, non-irritating gentle soap thoroughly rinsed works great for my guy.

What brand do you use?

To me, it seems like the fleece would hold moisture and cause rubbing. And the no-turns are too snug in my opinion for 24/7. I have always used cheapies such as these: https://www.jefferspet.com/products/roma-double-tape-ribbed-bell-boots-pair-size-small-color-white?via=55bbc6defba3fdb7050000a6 As long as you have a size large enough, I don’t think they’d rub at all.

I have a few pairs of the Walsh boots. They hold up well and I like that the closure seems to hold pretty well.

There are others that look good too. Thin Line makes a sheepskin bell too:

My horse lives 24/7 in professional choice no turns and never had a rub. for reference I live in swampy S. Florida.

Mine lives in italian rubber pull on ones 24/7 and has no rubs. I think sizing is important (not too small OR too big).
I wish he didn’t need them, but alas plays way too hard outside.
