Belly Bands

I recently was looking for a Belly Band to help with some rubs on my horse. Equifit offers a lovely belly band, but for an excessively huge price. $180 cdn. I decided to shop around before having to swallow that amount to pay. I know towels are an option, or saddle pads, but I really liked the idea of the Equifit Belly Band.

After browsing around on the internet I found the Horze Belly Band. for 60% less of the cost of the Equifit! It’s almost the exact same thing, but with a few different things. The clips of the Horze one are plastic where the Equifit has metal ones, no big deal to me. The Horze belly band has a fuzzy where it velcro’s together, which the Equifit does not. The material on the Horze Belly Band is thick and feels long lasting. Rode in it the other night and was super satisfied. For $70 cdn, it was well worth the purchase!

Thought I’d share my find if anyone was looking for something much the same but half the cost!

Huh. Never seen these before. Have seen girth covers, obviously. What kind of rubs is he getting?

Cool that’s a huge difference , basically you can get 2! I will pass this along

A lot of jumpers are now wearing these as even the smallest hair rub is getting them disqualified… they have become very common especially in the International ring!

OK, interesting! This would be leg rubs or spur rubs specifically, I assume?

yes

Yes, mostly.

At our barn we had a couple rubs this fall. Seemed to coincide with them changing from summer coat to winter. Not sure if they were spur rubs or from the half chaps - different horses and riders.

Anyway we got some knitted leg warmers, like the 80s fitness type. Wear them over chaps at the ankle, and this did the trick nicely. Obviously not really a show-ready look, but the price was right (value village).

Why not something like this?

A lot less money and from personal experience real sheepskin girth covers are very effective. Even some of the synthetic covers work quite well.

G.

Clipped or thinskinned horses sometimes get rubbed in other places than the girth, like where your leg touches them. (or in my horse’s case where pretty much anything, including the rubber reins, touches them).

Happy to share a good deal!

Some times with clipped horses or change from summer to winter coats, horses can get spur rubs or boot rubs. This little thing is quite helpful, my guy tends to get rubs at this time of year with the hair changing he just rubs so easily. I don’t use it every single ride, but happy to have this as an option.

I felt saddle pads were too inconvenient as you would want more than one for when you need to wash one and need to use another.
