Hi,
I cannot find a good seating chart for Belmont that indicates how far back in the grandstand you have to be to be under cover. Anyone know?

I seem to recall the high ceilings on the 3rd level of the grandstand not offering much at all in terms of weather protection or shade.
So if you want cover, aim for the 2nd level. But I can’t recall exactly how far back.
The only downside about the 2nd level is that it’s hard to hear through the echoing.
The nice thing about Belmont is that it’s so HUGE that even on Belmont Stakes day, you can still step inside the grandstand to get out of the weather and have a little elbow room.
I’ve been there for the Belmont every year since Easy Goer and I can’t remember for the life of me if there are any seats that are not under cover. The roof sticks out very far over the grandstand. It might be the first 10 rows at most. The trick I learned over the years was to get seats around mid stretch so you can see things setting up versus just the horses crossing the finish line. It’s just too long a stretch to see it all with the naked eye.
Just checked my video from last year. The entire 2nd level is covered.
Last year we were in Clubhouse Section 2P 4th row back and we were under cover so to speak. Belmont is very open and depending on how the wind and rain might be driving in…well, lots of people would get wet! Just bring an umbrella. I don’t actually remember a wet Belmont Stakes and we go often.
I see grandstand tickets available Grandstand Section 2U Row E, close to where we were last year which I thought were very good seats.
My daughter got the tickets this year, not sure where we will be.
Thanks so much! I will likely end up on the second level so great to know that it is under cover. I have only been to Belmont twice and am just not very familiar with the layout. Now the debate is whether to buy tickets before or after the Preakness. Prices could plummet… But I really hope we have another TC chance this year. Either way, I will be there. I am hoping to have someone to root for on the undercard!
Check umbrella rules. For security purposes, NYRA did not allow them to be brought into the grandstand/clubhouse areas at Saratoga. I think eventually this rule wasn’t enforced, but might, depending on individual security personnel.
After the Breeders’ Cup at Monmouth , I bought my first roll up rain jacket, and now bring it in my bag if there’s ever a chance of rain.

Ruler on Ice. When I heard he could run in mud, I bet him.
I’ve never been disappointed sitting anywhere in the preferred grandstand. I’m pretty sure they don’t let umbrellas in. You’re better off bringing a rain proof jacket. I’ve gone every year since 1989 and only got wet in 2003 as far as I can remember.
