Agreed. He took care of his horse - can’t ask for much more than that.
Sorry to see the big guy lose, but kudos to Kent.

Well crap
I so wanted BB to win. I wanted it for BB and I wanted it for Kent Desormeaux. Huge kudos to KD for doing the right thing.
On an aside, congrats to Nick Zito and all of D’Atara’s people.
KD showed what a great horseman and sportsman he is today, doing right by the horse.
I wonder what happened, he looked sound.
It begs the question of what the steroids did for BB in the past - since he wasn’t on them today.
The one thing that we always say in horse racing, is there is “no sure thing”.
I didn’t get to see the race (ugg - abroad) but is BB off ?
Do all the other ponies look ok?
That was my main concern.

Just said he felt like he had no horse. It was SO hot compared to what they have had for weather. And it really did not look like BB was hurting. But you can’t tell with these athletes. They hide it so well. Going to hear from the vet now.
He didn’t look like he was hurting to me either, but (as you said) it’s really hard to tell. Hope there’s nothing wrong with him and maybe it was just the heat. He didn’t look like the horse I’ve seen in previous races.

Steroids dont move a horse up that much…
Another jock shows his class. Good for KD.
There must be something wrong. At least Kent had the sense to pull him up and not push BB.
Wow… That’s Horse Racing…
<sigh>
At least we can look foward to the Travers and Breeder’s Cup.
Didn’t he look off on the left front to you guys as he was cooling out after the race?
YES! I just called and friend to say that…but I thought maybe I was just “seeing things”.
wire to wire?
as they say in racing, or used to say when horses were bred for courses, it takes a lot of courage for a horse to come from behind and win…but it takes a lot more courage for a horse to go wire to wire.
congrads to nick zito who doesn’t send horses to slaughter.
At least no horses or jockeys were hurt. Let’s hope it is the same for BB.
Congratulations to Nick Zito!
I’m wondering if he bled…
Oh, the TV, searching for excuses!! Hats off to the winner. He was rank early. It’s hot, it’s far, he’s probably tired, maybe he’s out of shape too from some time off. Maybe he bled.
There is nothing wrong with him.
Have to admit I cracked a little grin when it became obvious there was nothing. Kind of fun to always wait another year…
I have been confused about some things said about Smarty Jones (who, as I’ve said before, I really think was the real deal and I wish he’d raced at 4! I don’t think would have been beaten by Big Brown). I never heard that he was looking out of form coming into the Belmont. Besides, he ran well anyway. And according to everyone, Big Brown has looked super. So there you go. Horse racing! I just love it.

Yep and this was as close to a sure thing as I’ve seen
No, but they sure do CRASH when they come off them.
They kept talking about how quiet he was like it was a good thing. I wondered if he wasn’t too quiet. I also wondered if taking him off steroids would have an effect? Unless he is raced again off steroids, there may be no way of knowing for sure.
Of course it could have been the heat coupled with lack of training because of the quarter crack?
KD is my hero. I would rather see that than a dead triple crown winner.
Have to wonder, though. This is his first race with no steroids, and he ran out of gas early. Jerry Bailey was on tv today and was asked about it. He said he preferred to ride horses given only “water, oats and hay.”
He looked a little off on his right front to me (I think…great, now I have to think…)
I’m now convinced that there’s a curse on the TC. But I hope the wonders and thoughts that he might’ve bled aren’t right. I hope he just didn’t feel good today, or something.
JB is now talking about the steroids.
disappointment but silver lining is the horse is alive, the jockey took the horse in mind and we have another year to dream
