Wow, I am pretty convinced after looking at the pictures of those foals. Wowza! I think he is too big for my new mare Wallis, but he sure would be a nice cross on my petite little Freestyle/Wolkenstein II mare. I was planning on putting her back under saddle next year, but hmmm. . . she could have just ONE more foal first.
I know that Doug lurks on this board and I’m sure he’s seen this thread. If I don’t hear from him soon, I’ll drop him a line and see if he can make it happen.
I know that Doug had already spoken at length with Axel this year, not sure what happend. Also, it is not that “simple” to prepare semen for export, so if it isn’t there already…
I can ask at least?
Hi Linda,
If you don’t mind asking Axel, that would be great.
Have you seen him in person? My only concern with him is that his neck looks sort of short in the video. Is that just the way he’s being ridden or does he actually have a short neck? The mare I am considering him for has quite a short neck, so really want to breed her to a stallion with an excellent neck.
Thanks,
Sar
I don’t know if anyone mentioned on page one (haven’t looked back at it since page 2 “arrived”) there is a GORGEOUS filly by BD in the most recent AHS magazine that is just being delivered this week. Wow! She is lovely!!
ok I had to resurrect this thread because I just heard from Doug today that Benetton Dream will be available in Canada, woohoo!!!
Now, I just need to figure out which mare he would cross best with. For those of you who have seen him in person, do you have any thoughts on his neck conformation? I haven’t been able to find any conformation pictures of him, and in the riding pics his neck looks a bit short, but maybe just the way he is being ridden?
I will have semen available from both Belissimo M and Benetton Dream to use this year. Any thoughts on which stallion should go with which mare? Bachelorette #1 is an SPS Weltmeyer/Rubinstein mare. No real conformation issues, except that her hind leg is straighter than ideal (does not seem to pass this onto foals though) . I don’t really want to add much in terms of size to her. She is very sweet and mellow, no temperament issues at all. I am leaning towards Belissimo for her, due size.
Bachelorette #2 is a GOV approved Freestyle/Wolkenstein II mare. She is currently in foal to Belissimo M. She is very much a ladies horse and on the shorter side, so don’t mind breeding her to something bigger. She is a nice type, 3 good gaits, lovely topline, but her neck is quite short and she needs help in the front leg correctness. She could use a bit more freedom in the shoulder. She is on the hot side, so want to breed her to a mellow stallion. I am thinking Benetton Dream for her, but am concerned about the neck thing.
Any thoughts?
That is exciting news! I think if we keep our EM Lotte that he would be a super match to her. Nice to know Doug is getting some in as he is so easy to deal with.
I am digging this thread out…
Benetton Dream ist sold and in any case the plan was to offer frozen only this year.
I have just gotten the third cross out of my Florencio mare and I would really like to repeat that. But as said only frozen. In Germany are for sure not too many people using frozen, so I would like to know how you experienced the frozen quality.
And to add to the thread as such:
He certainly puts on substance but not too mzuch in my case. The last filly we have now is for sure the one that looks lightest in type. They all have a stellar temperament, quiet bnut not dumb, easy from birth on, easy to handle, easy learners, The neck maybe something he does not improve and I think one should have a bit TB in the background.
No one ?
Ask Jan. she had one this year.
Ticofuzzy had 2 Benetton Dream colts last year from frozen.
One was champion at his inspection.
Alexandra, Andrea bred my mare Kabibi to him and got a pregnancy on 1st cycle with frozen. The colt looks very good.
I had two colts from frozen semen. Both conceived on the first try. The semen looked very funky under the microscope and my vet was concerned, but it worked great! It was almost like all the sperm were concentrated at one end of the straw and there were all these crystals at the other end of the straw.
Both colts were SUPER movers and were bigger boned. I’m breeding the Stedinger/Prince Thatch xx mare back again this year.
o.k. So at least I have now an idea about the frozen and how it works:
Here are my three editions BD - SPS Florencio - Prince Thatch xx - am debating now a fourth edition or not…

Spike,
I think Doug at Rideauwood Farms looked into getting some into Canada, but he would need to order at least 25 doses. I would be interested in probably 2 doses. Any other Canadians interested? Maybe we could drum up enough interest to make the 25 dose minimum.

Just adding to this resurrected thread: Aileron Stables has some in her tank right now and she’s cheaper than Doug.

I just bought some from her… my mare should be hopefully getting bred Saturday… here’s hoping all goes well:winkgrin:
What kind of mare do you breed to him ?
My 2012 model seems to be the best of the three sofar. But I went for a change. I can always go back to him.
I bred a Stedinger/Prince Thatchxx mare and a DaCaprio/Wolkenstein II mare to him. Both mares are smaller (~16-16.1) and are refined. Both colts are the most substantial foals the mares have had. Both have the same type of movement that their mothers have, but bigger.

I am breeding a Fabrizio du Moulin X Silberfeil mare to him who has about 3/8 tb blood in that mix. She scored 9 for her walk and 9 for her swing and 9 for her neck … and she makes those babies pretty… so we will see. Although she is not fine boned herself… I have always crossed her on ultra pretty and refined all her babies have been very refined… so we will see… We know it will be a mover… and pretty… … lol
And will have a very very good temperament !
