I vote coconut! I am obsessed with a raw coconut oil I bought for myself, it smells like those girlscout cookies…samoas? Yum!
Got my lavender vanilla and balm yesterday (it maight have been here sooner, but I’m kind of a slacker about checking the mailbox). Package was fine, and the chestnut beastie loved the sweets!
My Review…
Packaging - I like the matching jars, having the red banner on the balm is just enough to distinguish the products but keep everything in harmonious. The little sponge was handy, and I love that the directions are on the jars as well as the (more detailed) half sheet (card stock was a nice touch btw).
Soap - I could only detect a slight floral hint, but I have a pretty impaired sense fo smell, so it’s probably just me. It did a good job cleaning my bridle post-ride this morning, I wipe it down every time, but cutting through the green crusty slobber on the reins was noticeably easier with HS. It didn’t get all the black boot marks off my saddle, but they are much less noticeable, and that sucker rarely gets cleaned. I like that I can see that it actually does something (visibly cleans) without stripping all of the moisture from my hands and tack.
Balm - Good stuff, absorbed pretty quickly, basically a “light” version of lederbalsam, except not greasy. It left my hands feeling lightly moisturised and the leather seems nourished but not sticky.
Thanks Libby!
I’m turning into a tack cleaning junkie…
Loved the balm, already loved the soap!
Forgot to say, it was sitting in a metal mailbox, in Phoenix, in July, and didn’t melt. Awesome!!!
FYI for hot/humid climates- I’ve definitely noticed a difference between the balm’s texture and absorbency in a heat index of 110 versus 80. No surprise, it’s softer, easier to spread, and absorbs better when it’s warmer. However, it’s perfectly easy to use at 80. The consistency is just a bit firmer.
LIBBY! I LOVE the new label although do miss Buzz’s ears. The hard candies are a huge hit in the barn…3 for the beasts and 1 for me! Perfect. You’re rocking it.
I’m in a hot humid area and have noticed the consistency of the balm has changed. It is now firmer but breaks off in little lumps as I use it, which makes it harder to apply. It has been kept in my air conditioned home since I got it though so I’m not sure how the weather conditions could have much impact on it.
BAC I’m experiencing the same thing with the balm. I live in hot and humid Maryland. Balm and soap are kept in my air conditioned house.
The balm has gotten firm and bumpy. It’s okay once applied, but doesn’t go on as easily as it did when it first Arrived. However, I do like how it conditions my tack- it absorbs into the leather, doesn’t sit on top like other balms do. I would like it more if it were scented!
I’m also in hot and humid Maryland, not too terribly far from Reminisce (hiya! Long time no see.) I haven’t noticed the firmness/bumpiness others have, but my balm also lives in my tack trunk rather than an air-conditioned house, so it’s subject to different temperature conditions. I do like it better warmer (it’s the one upshot to a heat index of 110) as it spreads better.
Maybe I need to set the balm out in the sun before I use it.
My balm was kind of stiff and a bit lumpy too (I keep it in my tack locker) but what I did was scoop a bit out and rub my fingers together. This liquefied it and made it easier to spread on the leather. It melts very easily at body temperature.
Still loving the stuff – but OMG it causes the SQUEAKS when two surfaces treated with it (boots and saddle in this case) rub together. Luckily this passes quickly, because when one’s posting trot has an audible “squeak-squeak squeak-squeak” associated with it, it’s kind of embarrassing…
Now need to get my hands on the conditioner…
I would buy so much Vanilla Mint and Coconut scented soaps!
i finally made my first purchase order - vanilla lavender and the balm (as i was waiting to see if there would be more confidence scent but never got an answer). i’m so excited to get this and use it on my leather goods. does happy dance
crimsonsky – I’m so sorry! I thought I had responded! At this point, I don’t have the confidence scent planned again, but I think after I’ve rotated through a couple more, i can add it back
Had a fabulous time at Wump Camp (that’s a jump you can walk over – seriously weenie eventing!) and will be getting orders done in the next day!
Thank you guys for all the feedback!! (I hate squeaky tack too!)
Libby
no worries Libby - i look forward to the soap in the vanilla lavender.
What did “confidence” smell like?
The Confidence soap is a blend of Rosemary and Citrus
It is August 1st, and that means a new month with a new limited edition scent!!
We are entering the dog days of summer, so everyone can enjoy a cool, sweet pick me up! Alfie’s Vanilla Mint is now available in the Etsy store.
I made more Balm last night, and am wondering what may cause some of it to be lumpy? Hmmmm – It does melt at body temps, so it won’t take much warming up to get it spreadable. But, I’d like it to have a smooth texture from the get go.
Will have to ponder on this!
Thanks for the feedback!
Libby
Yay, vanilla mint!!! Placed my order… Hope it gets here soon, I lent my other soaps to a friend and haven’t gotten them back yet!
