Best 1200D or higher turnout sheets with detachable neck?

Zero fill, or max 100gm is all I need. My blankets are still good enough that I don’t want to spend $300+ to get new blankets, and I’m somehow missing a sheet, and I suspect all 3 horses will need some extra protection at some point this Winter, and I’ve often wished I had neck covers for them all at one point or another most Winters. Cold rain and sleet are the bigger issues over snow here, but snow here is also wet.

Detachable neck is a requirement, as there will be other times the sheet will be used where an attached neck will be too warm.

I’d also rather not spend $200+ on a sheet

My preference is Rhino, though I do have an Amigo Bravo that I like. They’re both over $200 CDN.

I wonder if you could find a used Rambo- the green one w legs arches. Several of mine are 10 years old and look new after washing. I do waterproof them now but I don’t know if I have to. The neck covers are easy for my awkward fingers to attach.

What’s funny is Rambo doesn’t hit this–it’s not 1200d. Some of the best fabric out there, and I also have several pieces at or approaching ten years. It’s tough to draw a hard line about denier when it really means something different depending on fabric. I found this article interesting (Google will translate it.)

Under $200, higher than 1200 denier, with a detachable neck? I think SSTack is having a good sale and probably has something that checks those boxes.

Lemieux kudos is a really nice blanket. 1200 denier, right at $200 if you buy from uk or Europe. https://www.redpostequestrian.co.uk/horse-rugs/turnout-rugs/lemieux-kudos-100g-detachable-neck-turnout-rug--navy__218201
I bought one from redpost and it came in 4 days.

I believe Shires makes 1200D with detachable neck. That’s what my friend always bought for her blanket destroyer horse. My pick would be Amigo Bravo 12 plus. You could probably find a 0 fill for under $200 with Black Friday sales if they have your size in stock.

If you can get away with 900 denier, the Le Meiux ones are nice:
$124 for a past season model: https://www.lemieux.com/us/lemieux-outlet/arika-featherweight-blanket-0g-navy-without-leg-straps

$207 for the same one but “current season” (not sure the difference): https://www.lemieux.com/us/horsewear/horse-rugs/arika-featherweight-rug-0g-new

A quick search gave me this WB one that hits all your boxes for $172: https://www.weatherbeeta.com/weatherbeeta-comfitec-plus-dynamic-ii-detach-a-neck-lite-1006916000-9729c1 (I know some people rant and some people rave over WB blankets though)

I love tack hunting threads. Here are two more:

$185, 1200D, no fill, hood included: https://adamshorsesupply.com/amigo-bravo-12-plus-light-v-front-turnout-exclusive-color.html

$135, almost the same as above? I don’t see the difference at a quick glance: https://adamshorsesupply.com/amigo-bravo-12-plus-lite-turnout-205909.html

Weatherbetta if they fit, otherwise I still love my Bow Horse blankets, but I think I’m the only one on the board that does. 2nd year of using them, still water proof and like new.

Do you need 1200D because your kids are destructive? Or is there some other cold weather reason? I swear by the smartpak sheets that have the 10yr warranty, they’ve replaced 2 of mine (one for loss of waterproofing and the other for a strap tear), as well as sent me replacement straps that broke. They have a high neck version that fits my downhill built Appendix as well as my uphill built Holsteiner.

1050D at $250 (If you wait for a sale you can get it close to $200)

ETA They also have a regular neck one that has d-rings for a detachable neck, slightly pricier at $300, maybe because it has a belly band as well: https://www.smartpakequine.com/pt/smartpak-ultimate-weathershield-turnout-sheet-24445

Yes, these guys are hard on blankets, and they have some wooded sections they go through at times. I know the Denier is just part of the equation, it’s just the easiest to search on

I actually had a SmartPack 10 year blanket for one of these horses, and in 3 wears he’d ripped it and broken 2 snaps, so I’ve been gunshy about them. Probably just a lemon but…

I’ll take a look at all these, thanks!

Schneider’s has been running a sale for the past week or so, I picked up a couple of new turnouts – one sheet and one midweight, many of them have necks or detachable necks and I think the waterproofing is pretty good – I have two or three that I’ve been happy with over the past few years.

I have two Rambos: one midweight and one of those green sheets; the waterproofing has been re-done many times, but I think they’re starting to lose their ability to remain waterproof. I’m just not willing to spend $500 on a new Rambo! :grimacing:

If you look at Schneiders, make sure to get the Stormshield extreme - they are a nice fabric and you can get detachable hood for them. I have a few of these and they have washed and worn well.

The StormShield® Extreme II series is made from a more durable 1680D polyester that offers extreme durability for the active horse! This blanket is sturdy, offers good movement range, and stands up to your horse that regularly engages in vigorous play. Backed by a 2-year warranty.

Go with the Amigo range … they are really sturdy blankets and they have almost all the extras the Rambo’s have these days if you get the bravo line. Just keep in mind they are heavier if you have a more delicate horse. But if it’s just a sheet maybe that’s not an issue.

I keep wanting to get one of these, but they’re always on pre-order/out of stock!

The Amigo Bravo 12 is the one I’d go for. I have one, and I’ve only had to repair the lining IIRC. Pretty sure that was due to the barn staff yanking it off the door and getting it snagged rather than a horse reason, though.

I love the Amigo Bravo 12 line. My ponies are very tough on blankets and these have held up really well. They have a 50g one that is a super ugly light blue colour (I have no idea who thought this was a good blanket colour as its just poopy and muddy within 2 seconds), but it was on sale for $99 (retail for $309) the other month so I bought 4 for my ponies. Not sure if they are still on sale? They have a removable hood and are the perfect weight for this type of weather.

This is the one but its not on sale at this place. Maybe its still on sale somewhere close to you? I only purchased them as they were such a great deal as I really hate the colour lol!

I have 2 Amigo Bravo 0g sheets - one purchased in ~2016, the other purchased ~2018. They are both still in regular rotation, still perfectly waterproof, no damage to either sans a broken snap on a tail cord (that horse is a tail rubber and probably got it caught).

No complaints!

They won’t be on sale anywhere else at that $99 price - that was an exclusive for Pleasant Ridge to use the last of that fabric. I bought one too. I think the colour looked nice out of the bag and for one day lol.

I’d do the Amigo Bravo line too. I have two Bravos (100g and midweight,) a Rambo, and a Rhino. In some ways the Bravos have held up better than the Rhino. My horse isn’t a roughhouser, but he has been turned out with mouthy, bossy buddies, and the rugs have been tested accordingly. (Said mouthy, bossy buddy is now out with a horse who plays just as hard as he does, and buddy’s own Bravo rug is wearing fine.) They fit true to size, NOT “Rambo size.”

I have a couple of Schneiders Storm Shield sheets and they are now making neck covers with no fill to match them, so I got a couple of them…they have worked out very well for me and they don’t break the bank.
