Scattered oaks was a good place for the horse less, lessons were not segregated between boarders and non-boarders. IIRC, lessons were pretty cheap. However, I was not terribly impressed with the quality of instruction. Very far east of town.
Another one in that area is white fences. They do both hunters and dressage. Very nice people and better lessons than scattered oaks, not sure about their lesson horses.
Rio Vista farm is a big place close to the airport. Competitive h/j show barn with a very strong willed trainer some people don’t get along with. Boarder lessons are ok, if you don’t board or lease the lessons are terrible, very limited instruction and you can’t do much.
I quite liked lessoning with Jen from cornerstone farm. She’s in spicewood/Westlake and treated horse less me just as well as her boarders. Also allowed me to trade barn work for extra riding time.
Madrone ranch stables has awesome trainers, but I don’t know about the quality and quantity of lesson horses. They are out towards bee cave/lake Travis, i.e. west.
Stay away from Heather Davis (can’t remember her barn name). After every lesson I took, she harass me and tell me I owed x amount for leasing a horse even though I specifically said I wasn’t interested in a lease.
Bee caves riding center, hunters Chase farm, and bel canto: scary scary places for the horse and non existent instruction in lessons.
Switch willo is geared exclusively towards showing. If you don’t lease a horse you can’t jump higher than two foot. If you do lease or own, you are charged a fee for every month that you don’t show.
There’s also manor equestrian center, Cameron equestrian, bit by bit, couraggio, the reserve at lake Travis, and another of other barns, but I have no first-hand knowledge of them.
Can you tell I spent a long time horseless in Austin?
