Best clippers?

I’m interested in clipping for some extra money this fall but I’m rusty so I am going to start now, offering my work for the old ones with Cushings and the like.

Could I get some recommendations for clippers? Here’s what I’m looking for (in no particular order):

  • under $500
  • quiet
  • fast
  • light
  • easy or quick change blades
  • low price replacement blades
  • long lasting mechanical parts
  • can use a wide blade
  • can use different blades for blending
  • if cordless, long battery life and low cost replacement batteries so I can keep spares
  • blades that are easily sharpened so I can send them out

I really like these. Lightweight, not noisy, I’ve been clipping for three years on the same blades.

Yeah, I know it is on a dog grooming site, but I have used these clippers for years and ADORE them. They fit all of your requirements, use A5 blades, and are the least fatiguing clippers I have ever used. The head is lightweight, and the heavy mechanicals hang beside you on the wall, and the cutting speed is infinitely adjustable. I ordered mine from one of the vet supply catalogs donkeys years ago. The only drawback I found was as they got older, they were less quiet, but will still cut thru anything.

My only word of warning is they do not come with any blades or a case. I picked up a cheap tool box to cart them around in, and I recommend having AT LEAST three sets of blades. I rotate mine as they heat up, and drop them into a cup of clipper lube to cool. The A5 blades are not exactly low cost (10W are $25 a set on this site), and to get a few should put you close to the $500 mark, but they take ten seconds to change.

I love the Andis AGC Super 2 speed clippers. I use them for everything. I can put a wide blade on them for body clipping and then swap out to trim. They are pretty lightweight and well under the $500.00 mark.

I have the “Groomers Edge” clippers made by Double K. I got them through Valley Vet. They were about $360 and worth every penny. They use A5 blades.
I have fairly bad arthritis in my hands and found these clippers to be the easiest to use except for the cord, which takes a little getting used to. I body clipped three furry ponies this year in half the time it took with my old A5’s as they just power through the hair. They are quiet and have a knob that controls the speed from super low to high, and everything in between.
They might not be for everyone, but I love them.

Lister Legend or Lister Star

They are fast, cut through anything, blades stay sharp for several clips, and don’t blow hair in your face.

I have Andis 2 speeds and the clipper motors are just fine for anything I need. It’s the blades that get thrashed, and you say that you’ll be offering services to the Cushing’s set, which would be my old man, so the Lister Star I think it is offers a shearing package as well as can be used with the T-84 etc blades.

I’d consider that, because the most important part of keeping the blades in good order is keeping them clean, and a thick Cushing’s coat is very hard to clean to the skin. I think I saw the Lister Star with a shearing package and regular blades at Jeffers. Shear, bathe, then follow with a regular clip.

I went through an embarrassing number of blades this Spring, even with baths the old guy was like clipping a collie dog, and quite filthy and greasy at the skin.

I don’t know if this is the best option, but the hair on the old guy went nuts last winter, thickest and longest it has ever been.https://scontent-mia1-1.xx.fbcdn.net/hphotos-xat1/v/t1.0-9/1507590_983757661657595_6514865748814265348_n.jpg?oh=d211e8ba6888acb8c1f9d1cfd75c4781&oe=5620764E

I’m really enjoying my Andis 2-speeds. They are so quiet! I sold my old Clipmasters and decided to update with the Andis. Very happy I did.

My husband surprised me last month with these clippers:
Wahl 8868 Figura Professional Lithium Ion Rechargeable Pet Clipper Kit. The price was $143 from Amazon Prime.
So far, I love them. All I really need them for is bridle paths and the like. The blade has several settings, you just move the lever under the blade to change the blade size. The clippers are fairly quiet. My very hot, very reactive Arabian is MUCH better about being clipped with the cordless clippers.
