Best Clumping Litter?

Okay, I did do a search and saw a few mentions in other cat threads, but nothing dedicated.

I’m using Tidy Cat (so-called clumping) now, and the urine is not clumping! Is there anything else out there that clumps and reduces odor??

Normally I have my cats in the barn/garage, but the new kitten is indoors and we’ve been bringing in the old girl at night now, too. I need help!

We really like SWheat scoop. We got it because we had to buy something and that’s all that was at the store, and we actually really liked it.

It clumps pretty well, isn’t dusty and doesn’t have that “kitty little clay” smell. It is made of wheat, so it’s no surprise that it kind of smells like bread, LOL.

I LOVE the Blue Buffalo walnut litter. It has no smell. It is awesome!! It clumps well. Not rock hard, but well enough to scoop with very few crumbs.

BUT–if your requirements are a hard clump, Precious Cat Ultra is the best I’ve ever found. It’s the blue bag. Super hard clump, and it does well with the smell, but not as good as BB.

I use the Blue Buffalo walnut litter and am (finally) pretty happy for clumping ability and odor control. I was using World’s Best but man is that stuff $$$$. I also have a great scoop called the Litter Lifter and it is great at getting any little crumbs of clumped litter.

I detest clay on many levels:lol:. Cats don’t seem to care but I hate it. Heavy, slimy and shaky odor control despite whatever they add. I won’t use the perfumery stuff…gag. I read some good reviews for Arm & Hammer’s Clump and Seal and was about to try it when I read that cats can ingest significant amounts from grooming and it turns to concrete in their guts :eek:. No thanks. Plus it is still clay:disgust:.

I’m pretty happy with the walnut and although more than clay, it is significantly cheaper than the World’s Best.

Shoot! Do you have a link for that info? We’ve been using the Arm & Hammer stuff for several months now and have been really happy with it. Finally found a clumping litter that doesn’t have that sweet perfume odor … gag for sure!

If I could use clumping, this would be it!! No odor at all and clumps very well. Unfortunately, 19+ year old Pooter will step or fall in fresh clumps and it sticks to her paws so we use plain clay and change it every other day.

I’m pretty skeptical about that article, Simkie. It seems strange that one person would have all these kittens die when I know countless others who’ve used these cat litters with no issues.

Having said that, I’m happy to try alternatives. Blue Buffalo walnut? I’m going to look for that. I’ve seen World’s Best at the store but haven’t tried it yet.

The only time my vet has said no clumping litter is for small kittens, as they will tend to eat the litter. Once they’re a bit older, it’s not an issue. I’ve rescued/fostered dozens and dozens of cats and have never had an issue with clumping kitty litter.

I like the Blue Buffalo one for multicats. I used Worlds Best before that and liked it but this one is better.

I used to raise cats and had read the article on clumping clay killing kittens. So I used “non-clay” litters for years and loved them. But once I started rescuing instead of breeding, I started having flare ups of FIP. I read somewhere that “bentonite clay” which is what clumping litters are, has some anti-viral properties to it. Now I have no idea if it is true or just coincidence but since I switched to the clumping clay there have been no incidences of FIP. I use the Special Kitty brand from Walmart. It is cheap and clumps well.

I just googled Arm and Hammer Clump and Seal when I was thinking about trying it and came up with other albeit testamonial/observational stories about bowel blockage. Apparently it is what the Clump and Seal is treated with causes really tight clumps and if cat gets lots of litter/dust on their feet then grooms it off, it can clump in the gut?

Yeah…still clay. I’m pretty happy with the Blue Buffalo.

I also love the Blue Buffalo, but I mix it half and half with the Arm and Hammer. Super clumping and very little dust with this mixture

Thanks, all. The one I tried first (was first one I found) was the recommended Precious Cat. It works great, so I think I’ll stick with this for now.
