Thanks everyone!
@snowblaze - luckily I do have a local resource: Annie Andrews - she lives not far from me and has offered to help! She suggested some local-ish handling classes; they were suspended over the winter (Covid), but should start back up sometime this year.
Iām looking forward to getting out there and doing some showing, though of course the horse stuff (competitions, schoolings, clinics - Iām an eventer) will be a conflict. sigh (Not complaining about too many fun things to do
)
Since Iām a trainer, Iām providing training tips/video demos to the āPuppy Groupā the breeder started - she placed 6 puppies in new homes (one is pending and she kept one), and these folks are hungry for puppy advice (Eleanor asked me to do this and Iām happy to help - she said sheās learning things too.)
It surprises me that show folks donāt do much actual obedience training (other than training the dogs to ālook!ā and stack), when we were picking up the puppy, the breeder (who owns the sire) said: āI can get him to sit sometimesā
, he has almost finished, is only 3 and didnāt show much last year (the dam has finished) - and he is spectacular. SO much presence and charisma, very bold and friendly. He is by the same sire as Bourbon and Whiskey (top Whippets in the country as you know), and looks a lot like them - he is simply stunning and you canāt take your eyes off him. The dam is Sportingfields, same line as our first Whippet. The co-breeder is Yvonne Sovereign (big name in the Whippet world), and she evaluated/graded the litter at 8 weeks and told the breeder āI canāt believe you arenāt keeping this oneā (ours) since she is very correct, and has that certain something.
, the breeder wanted to keep a male, so we got the pick of the litter!
She is SO smart (smarter than my older girl), and picks things up lightning fast; I think she could go in any direction, and will just be limited by MY time and energy constraints.
