Best crupper for sensitive horse?

My current saddle slides forward onto my horse’s shoulders on steep terrain trail rides. I have had a saddle fitter confirm proper fit. I am thinking of adding a crupper, though I have never used one and don’t know much about them. She is a thin skinned sensitive TBx that is prone to rubs. Which brand is best for her?

I was thinking about the Zilco crupper: (she does well with her padded Zilco breastplate)

Should I add the cushion too? :

I use a Zilco crupper on my endurance horse and so far have had no issues with it. I don’t use a fleece cover over it, but it wouldn’t be a bad idea. She’s a big-barreled Arab and things tend to get squeezed to the front, especially on steep trails.

That should be fine. I think the padding thing is to make the person feel better. Unless the horse is going down something steep, that strap is just lying on their back, inert. I would not bother with it.

Agreed-unless you have to pad the buckles along her headstall to prevent rubs the crupper should not bother her.

I had one horse that I used a crupper on. You must keep the crupper CLEAN at all times and may want to add a very fitted tube of fleece fabric over it. A friend competed a QTR Horse who had a lower tail set than most Arabs. He was rubbed by the “Y” ring where the two straps of the crupper connect to a ring and that sits on the croup. There are neoprene pad things that can be added to the “Ys” on cruppers and breastplates which put padding between the rings and straps and the horses. Her horse got bald on his croup before she got the neoprene thing.

No crupper at all…use breeching.
