Best custom stable blankets

hi all!

I just changed barns and would like to outfit my horse in the new barn colors. I was a die-hard horseware buyer and I see they have a custom option in triple crown custom for stables clothes.

The pricing is very reasonable compared to what I can gather vs. Blue Ribbon, and the Clothes Horse. I’ve heard that both Blue Ribbon and the Clothes Horse have excellent quality and great customer service, but my firsthand experience with horseware for stable clothes is also very positive.

My only concern is I don’t quite understand what exactly the TCC stable sheet is made of? I was looking for a classic cotton one and I’m worried this is more of synthetic?

Does anyone have thoughts of Triple Crown vs. the Clothes Horse, Blue Ribbon or Equitex?

Right now, I’m just shopping for a stable blanket and stable sheet. We are in California, our lowest temps are in the 30s.

I think they only need 200g of fill power on the blanket… I worry 300g is too much (I prefer to err on the side of under-blanketing vs. having them sweat). From what I can tell, only TCC has a 200g blanket, most others are 300g. Blue Ribbon does have a 150g.

Also, does anyone know why the prices vary depending on where you buy? The NetEquestrian price on a Blue Ribbon custom blanket is much lower than their individual website. I would much prefer to spend the money directly with the small business but not if I have to pay a materially more???

Again, I’m happy to spend more money if the quality really justifies it. The colors of our barn aren’t super unusual and I’m not looking for anything over the top options wise!

thank you!!!

Just to make things more confusing for you, you could also consider Integrity.

Also, just looked at the link you posted - the description says it is cotton. It specifies that it is “helix cotton”… which, knowing what a helix structure is, would make me think it’s a special weave of cotton, but I’m not a textiles expert, so I can’t be 100% sure.

thanks Pattnic, I saw that it’s cotton but it just seems to lay against the horse like more of a synthetic if that makes sense? I’m just worried it has kind of a clingy jersey texture?

Then again, if it’s good enough for Lee McKeever, maybe I should just shut my trap!

I have a sheet made out of a similar fabric, I think, though mine was from Saratoga Horse Works and was a lot cheaper. It’s a thinner, slightly textures fabric. It’s not clingy or cheap looking, I actually think it looks/feels/washes much better than cotton. But it’s got an almost small-waffle-weave texture to it.

That’s what I have. There’s a close up that shows the texture.

thank you vxf, do you use that as a day sheet or dress sheet? My new barn provides all the show clothes but not the stable clothes.

Try Radon, I have sheets that are 20+ years old and still look amazing.

I stopped buying the Triple Crown custom stable sheets for the farm. They shrink, fade and the straps are made of cheap material. Clothes Horse and Blue Ribbon are great options.

The truth? I basically never use any of the show clothes. My horses do 1-day shows 99.9% of the time and show out of the trailer. I buy this stuff cuz it’s pretty. I seriously have almost no use for it. I would consider that a lightweight dress sheet, for weather when a wool cooler is too much and a scrim is too little.

I have an ancient stable sheet from TCC that is more of a poly/nylon material.

I also have a “Rambo Helix” stable sheet from Horseware. If the TCC sheet you linked to is the same material, it’s a wicking polyester (nothing cotton about it except perhaps the feel?). It does tend to get static cling, but I use it as a drying sheet most often for my horse, and for that job, it’s super. As a stable sheet, I’d classify it as being lightweight. Lighter than a Baker, for example.

i also have this sheet and agree wit IPEsq. I’ll second Integrity Linens and The Clothes Horse.
