Best East Coast Trainer

Hi! Who do you recommend for show jumping help for a horse that taps rails? Not careless, but an event horse ( and boss on cross country) but then makes him not a clean show jumper. Tries hard, but if careful up front, forget hind, then tries super hard with hind and forgets front.

Any trainer suggestions who can help, preferably in the south East.

Thank you!

Are you looking to put the horse in full time training or just take lessons with a few Pro rides? Can take longer to change a horses style then teach it in the first place. May also be some conformation angles that just don’t allow a tighter, cleaner jump.

Would make sense to have whoever you are thinking of selecting do an honest evaluation ( for a fee) and explain their plan for the horse going forward. “Oh, sure I can fix that” without really evaluating the horse in person, in the irons can be an empty promise. Beware. Even “ the best” cant fix everything. Plus there is a financial component for most owners looking for a trainer.

Thing with “ the best” is it doesn’t do you much good if they only take full service board, full training clients at 3k a month and you cant do that and/or head trainer is on the road competing, not at home training anyway.

Can you share more general information on what you are looking for, no need for specifics. Just a general idea what you expect from trainer, full time board and training or just some help.

we had one like that, cross country no problem could clean jump five feet but would plow through a non challenging stadium jump… not worth his effort was his belief …he had a very high opinion of his self worth …the only way was to not give him a straight shot at the jump

He unfortunately isn’t a horse who plows though fences, it’s a slight tap here or there, and with the lighter poles, it’s a tap enough it will take down the fence.

I’m looking for someone to go and train with. Whether trainer needs to sit on horse a few times, up to them, I just need help figuring out how to make him a tad more careful ( but not too careful because he is an event horse) in show jumping. Whether it’s exercises, how I’m riding him, warmup techniques, or anything that they may have done or have the knowledge to help the horses jumping form.

Peter Wyld helps Boyd Martin. Might be a good start.

Doug Payne might be an option to try as well.
