Best Economy Mid-Weight?

Hello,

Next month I am leaving my 19 year old dressage gelding at the trainers for three months and I’ll be quite some distance away. We live in Michigan, and a case of EPM seems to have damaged his thermoregulatory system, thankfully, this is most of the damage. However, this means that if it’s below 55 and cloudy/windy/rainy he shivers and his muscles become tense and stiff. He already has a back up mid-weight (1 Amigo and 1 Northwind). Even the best blankets at this barn have been leaking with the rain/snow mix. I figured to make the BM’s and Trainers job easier I should invest in an “worse case” mid-weight, so they don’t have to deal with layering liners and sheets. Any recommendations on cheaper, waterproof mid-weights? He’s always at the top of the pecking order so durability isn’t a concern. I’ve looked at Mio’s and Rider’s Internationals but am unsure. I’d rather not spend more that $100. As far as fit, he’s a well muscled warmblood with a large chest and neck.

Thank you in advance!

Love this blanket! Held up fine for me so far. Despite their warning, I ordered my horses regular size and it seems to fit great. Really cant beat this for $70.

Schneider’s has a lot of inexpensive blankets.

Thank you so much for the recommendation. It looks like a great option!

Thank you! I’ll keep them in mind, they have great options.

I go for Schneiders every time. Durable and decently priced, with lots of fit options.

I think that’s all I own. My 2 are too hard on things for pricey blankets.

Another vote for Schneider’s. Big Dee’s might be another option, their blankets are very nice for the price. I have several and they wear well and wash up nicely.

Schneiders (sstack.com) by far the best blankets.

I received an email from Schneider’s this am, that they have blankets on sale.

Adam’s does good sales on blankets. Worth a look.

Thank you, everybody! I ended up getting a Schneider’s blanket.
