Best GPS unit to use while hunting/trail riding

I’m interested in getting a GPS unit to use while hunting and trail riding. I ideally want to be able to put permanent waypoints (ie. trailer parking, creek crossing, railroad crossing, etc). I think that a watch style would be handier than handheld but I would love to hear suggestions. Pros, cons, favorite models, etc.
Thanks!

I work in the natural resources field, and our field crews like the Garmin eTrex line for navigating in the back country. We use Trimble products for actual data collection because of the ability to post-process for differential correction, but if you don’t need that level of precision, the Garmins are great for a fraction of the price.

I have an Etrex and I just attach it to the breast plate.

I have the Polar watch. This is the newer version of it. https://www.smartpakequine.com/pt/polar-equine-v800-training-system-12429

Mine is actually two parts, one part watch and the other part I clip to my belt which is the GPS. Although now that I see the all-in-one I am totally lusting after it!

You can also track heartrate, but I would worry about the cords out hunting. But, it could show some really interesting data!

I have used my garmin etrex for years and it is useful, especially for adding waypoints and other data (highest/lowest elevation, average speed, speed at any point, fastest/slowest speed, total time and time moving, etc.

And for good measure my friend and I let ourselves get “lost” on the moss foundation and handily found our way back via key waypoints (we visit from out of state, so unlike locals, we are ripe candidates for getting lost if we go wandering).

HINT this experiment worked better the second time when someone checked the batteries before we left. In my defense the batteries last a REALLY long time. Oops.
