Best headsets and earbuds for coaching

Looking for recommendations for earbuds and wireless mic so I can hear better during my lessons. What are people using that you like? Ideally usb chargeable and will have a range that works in a 250 X 300 arena.

iPhone with earbuds on a soft silicone leash. Everyone has the earbuds and phone. The leashes are cheap!

Seconding phone with earbuds. I use JBL Endurance Peak 3 and aside from a wind rushing noise when we do lengthenings, my trainer said the sound is fine. I use a running buddy to hold my phone on my breeches but have just left it on the rail if I know I’m staying on one half

We all use our phones with various type of earbuds or headphones for lessons. It’s great because if several of us are out schooling our trainer can just do a group call and we are all connected. I find earbuds uncomfortable and they don’t tend to stay in my ears, so first I used wrap-around earbuds, but those gave me headaches (I have a really small head and ears and stuff just doesn’t fit me very well).

Now I use the Shokz OpenRun and I love them. No more headaches, and you can touch the sides to adjust volume, answer your phone, or play music if you want to ride and listen to what is on your phone.

I either tuck my phone into a front pocket or, if we are just in our indoor or a small-ish space, I leave it on a chair by the door.

What is a good option for someone that can’t use a phone? (No cell service, Wi-Fi is spotty, also have a student that’s too young for a phone).

A voice amplifier is a cheap and effective solution:

WHIS is the best system specifically designed for riders and they also have an optional wireless headset, but a few friends of mine use 2 way referee headsets. They are easy to find on Amazon, much cheaper than anything branded for equestrian use, of course… And if you think about the size of a soccer field, they’ve obviously got the range we need. You just have to make sure you get the ones that the motorbike people use because there’s some clip on things to make them belt compatible (or so I recall from my research)

Here one I have saved on my Amazon list of I ever feel a need (right now my coach has whis so I’m fine)

Great idea!

I haven’t used mine for lessons with my trainer but Ride IQ lessons on my Shockz are good. I have used the AirPods too but they sometimes fall out which is no bueno with how tiny they are.

Get a leash like the one I linked to above!

Same, in fact I think I got the recommendation here, maybe you. I use them for listening to books on tape around the farm because I can hear someone sneaking up on me so I don’t get smooshed. I wear them riding as well because I can listen to music quietly but still hear what’s going on, but don’t have to focus necessarily on what’s playing.

Hoping my coach will convert, she uses an older CC Coach that is showing its age and doesn’t always work great, plus the ear pieces aren’t that comfortable and I don’t like the wire.

We used Cee coach during the pandemic when we were allowed to shout or talk moistly

It worked well
