Best higher end tall boots

hey all,

want to get some higher end tall boots and want to know what the best high end ones are

the brands i know/hear of all the time are parlantis, tuccis, deniro, der dau, sergio grasso

pros/cons of each?

i do have a thicker calf, and ride the hunters

TIA!

Do yourself a favor & go with custom Vogels.
Mine are from 1989 & were worn quite a bit for their first 10yrs. Now rarely, but they still polish up showworthy.
They’ve been back to Vogel 3X:
1st for gussets
Next for back zips
Last to repair a zip (after over 5yrs)
They were as comfy as slippers from Day One.

They’re not on your list but I have custom LM (La Mundial) boots and I absolutely love them. I love them so much, in fact, that I’m planning to order another pair when I’m in Kentucky for the 5* next year.

I got them and rode in them for the first time at a show that same weekend and had no issues with discomfort. I’ve had them for a couple years now, ride in them 4-5x per week, absolutely do not look after them properly in any way whatsoever, and they’ve held up really well. I got mine with the reinforced calf option so I have an extra panel of leather where my leg makes contact with my horse and it’s gone a long way toward preventing premature wear and tear on that area. They’re also very reasonably priced for a full-custom boot, IMO.

My cousin bought a pair of Der Dau boots in the 80s and I’m pretty sure she still has them (had to have an elastic panel added to the calf but other than that and resoling they’ve been fine) but I’ve been told the quality has gone massively downhill from what she has since the next generation of the family took over.

I have a pair of LM boots. They were also perfect day one. I bought a pair of paddock boots that I also love…so much so I bought a second pair in case the first pair wore out as I wear them every day all day. They look so nice I wear the second pair w jeans to go out to dinner.:grinning:. Then I thought I’d better have a third pair… I am still wearing the first pair. The third pair is still in the box.

Can’t justify a second pair but got LMs as well in 2022 for dressage boots for my hard-to-fit legs (short and very wide calves on small feet) and love them. There was a period of time where people who thought they ordered from LM got substandard products because of a business competition issue but it looks like it’s been settled for a couple of years now. I didn’t want the bling that’s associated with some big-name custom boot companies, the little 1" of tooling along the top was exactly the level of “extra” I like.

I assume from the content that we are talking about rider boots and not horse boots… I assumed horse boots because we are in the horse care section of the forum, but then read the comments.

Another vote for LM boots - the absolute best right out of the box. Amazing fit - super quality with no need to break in. And the price is amazing for customs!! And the bling options … just saying …

In the last few years all I’ve worn have been my Tuccis. I have the Marilyns (the ones with patent leather accents) and the Harleys, and I adore both of them. I think they are by far my most flattering boots and have lasted the longest looking the nicest out of all of the brands I have.

I also have several pairs of Deniros. I lived in their tennis-shoe-sole boots for a long time, and absolutely loved them, but they definitely aged worse than the Tuccis, and I’d get 18-24 months out of them before they were trashed.

Friends say that their Parlantis don’t last terribly long, but people seem to love them nonetheless. And I’ve heard great things about LM boots. I have old Sergio Grassos and they held up well and looked nice, but I never thought they were quite tall enough, so hard to give much of an opinion since that’s more of a boot measuring thing than anything related to the brand.

Also have Fabbris, and have really liked them. But they came to me used, so I don’t know how the break-in process really went, and they’re not as flattering, but that’s not saying much since they weren’t actually made for me. Certainly worth a look.

At the end of the day I think that they’re all relatively equal and it just comes down to which ones fit you the best. I know my exact size in Tuccis, so probably will stick with them until I don’t fit into the off the shelf boots anymore, lol!

I love my Tuccis. I also got the Marilyns, and customized them (navy blue leather at the top). Four years in and they still looks so good. If I could afford a second pair, I would get the brown in a heartbeat.
