I have been using hoof boots for my Barefoot trimmed geldings for over 8 years. Recently on two different trips in difficult muddy terrain, my horse’s feet were slipping. It felt like he was on roller skates. I have never had this problem before. Any ideas on what might be causing this? I ride in a variety of boots but on these two trips, he wearing the easy boot gloves. I have considered putting studs in the boots but I’m concerned that once we’re out of heavy mud the studs could cause some leg damage. Any suggestions are welcome!
My experience has been that hoof boots are slippery in mud and wet grass (I use Renegades). When the trails are muddy, I just ride barefoot. I’m lucky that our mud season is short! I didn’t want to stud the boots for the same reason. If I happen to come into muddy areas when riding with boots I’m just super careful. Sorry I can’t be more helpful!
