My plan is to take my youngster to 2 day Mountain Trail Clinic in June and I will be sleeping in my goose neck tack room. I have a 2 horse straight pull with a small tack room. What are your best tips or cheap “make it like home” ideas for camping without a living quarters trailer?
Very comfy folding chairs, portable toilet and cowboy shower (if the location you’re going doesn’t have a shower.)
The ability to get clean and recline is one you don’t grasp the importance of until you don’t have it!
In addition to the above, I bring a small portable propane grill for food. Love it! We keep all of our human food and utensils in a rolling tool box in the trailer since we camp so much. We also have a wood slat camp table that is so nice for meals and folds up pretty small.
We do not use out tack room and instead sleep and set up our stuff in the horse area after the poop is cleaned out. We don’t use shavings. Ours is a 6-horse so it makes for roomy living when we are away.
I am not above “showering” with a horse bucket, solo cup, and a swimsuit. Works to get me clean!
I didn’t like spending time in the gooseneck and decided to take over the horse space for myself. As long as it wasn’t raining it worked well and I was super comfortable after a few tweaks.
First you’ve got to clean it out of course, and if it’s really yucky you can lay down a tarp and hang sheets along the walls to cover the poop stains, lol.
Then place a couple of bales of hay or shavings where you want your bed, place whatever you use on top. Use more bales for tables, I even had tablecloths!
But my absolute best thing was mosquito netting hung from the ceiling so my entire space was enclosed.
I could relax or sleep in there with all of the windows and doors open for air but zero bugs, it was wonderful.
I kept a trash bag lined bucket with toilet seat lid in the dressing room with a bag of cedar shavings next to it. I simply use and cover with shavings and empty when ready.
Camping out of a horse trailer can be very comfortable ime.
