I just brought a stallion over in January and I was told he had to be under 18 months to avoid CEM testing. Not that I really was paying attention since he was turning 4 anyway.
I imported a foal back in 2010, and she was still quarantined for 72 hours. And the bill for that 72 hours was…impressive…

From the USDA-APHIS site:
“Stallions and mares under 731 days of age are exempt from CEM testing if the horse has never been bred. Geldings of any age are exempt from CEM testing.”
Yes, hoping to get him here before he hits 2 (end of April). If I don’t make the time frame, he will be boarded there till I can line the coffers for a full mature stallion import
I would think Klatte/Dutta can do that pretty quickly. They got my mare a flight pretty quickly and she only got held up waiting for test results.
I’ll be calling Dutta on Monday!
Thanks GAEventer, got your message!
Klatte and than directly into Toronto - I accompanied Horses on that route from Frankfurt. Has been a few years back though.
Why via NY ?
People I have actually talked to (shippers) have said its more likely to get a flight to Ny than to Toronto. We don’t have nearly as much traffic common into Toronto. So, if there IS a flight here, I would take it, but the window is much smaller according to the folks I have chatted with so far.
