Best Inexpensive "French Type" Saddles (like CWD, Butet, Childeric, etc)
I have a beautiful Beval Salem for sale. Only because I finally took the plunge to get a custom Antares for my mare and I.
Not sure if is the correct size you are looking but I highly recommend checking one out. They are a lovely saddle.
Sorry, I didn’t know that was not allowed. I didn’t post a thread offering it for sale, just that I had one on a thread that was asking about saddle brands, where this brand was mentioned as a good option. When I saw the last post with several links to ads I didn’t even give it a second thought. I purposely did not post the specifics about the saddle either along with pics. I just mentioned having one.
I am more than happy to remove it if it is against policy.

Hi Jenny, I wanted to send you a PM, but your box is full. Would you PM me?

The BDH is a nice saddle. I half wish I had snatched up one inexpensive and used when they were a little more plentiful. Also nice and not mentioned (perhaps not AS FRENCH as those mentioned but also even more under your budget) are the Northrun Ashland saddles and the Yves Caseneve. They are not quite as soft/squishy as a true French saddle… but if what you want is an inexpensive but quality saddle that can pop on different horses-- I’d recommend either of those.

My sister had a BdH. Nice saddle. Took forever to break in and she never got it to darken past “chestnut red,” but it fit a lot of horses and was a good solution for her long legs.

I’ve never sat in Dover’s Circuit Premier Special, but it looks like it’s built to be a straight up knock-off of the Butet. If it had been around when sister child was looking for her BdH she’d probably have ended up with one.

I’ll throw in another vote for the Beval Salem. When I got my Devoucoux I sold my Butet and kept the Salem. It’s quite comfortable and really does ride just like the Butet!

I had a Yves Cazeneuve and I send that idea… It was a very nice saddle, comfortable, and great for jumping. They can be had around the $600 price point in decent shape. The ovations don’t hold up well in my experience. Mine stayed stiff for a very long time and when it finally did break in it just looked like crap.
