Best light weight grazing muzzle?

My vet suggested a grazing muzzle for my 21 year old OTTB who is not fat but is insulin resistant and has been a bit sore footed lately. He will have blood work and x rays on Monday. I have an old black muzzle, but it is heavy and my horse had a bad neck injury in May and I would like to find one that is lighter in weight. He is very smart and has figured out how to eat with the thing so far.

Any suggestions?

Greenguard muzzle, hands down!

While I initially balked at the price, mine have lasted me YEARS. The first one I purchased in 2015 is still going strong after 4 summers with 24/7 use. I’ve purchased more for other horses since then, and they are just as durable.

A second for the Greenguard! It is light weight. I’ve had mine for a year and a half, which is a record for my haflinger mare, so the price is a lot easier to swallow.

Greenguard. Bite the bullet and do it. Be aware that the fit is completely different from other grazing muzzles. Follow their directions and you’ll be fine.
For the first few times he wears it, fill him up on hay before putting it on and letting him on pasture. Also, I fed a treat through the slots every time I put it on for a little while. The first day my mare was frustrated but once she figured it out no issues.

Another Greenguard fan.

Just buy the greenguard

I’m a huge fan of the Tough-1 Breathe Easy muzzle. I use the halter combo. I had the original version with larger openings around the nostrils for our Shetland pony. I have since purchased the newer version and just cut the extra nylon strap that runs across the opening. I have always felt horses seem a bit panicking when placing traditional muzzles due to the pressure on the nostrils.
