Best no barking collar?

We are contemplating a move to the city but our 12 year old beagle is a powerful barker. Over the years we have worked with him to stay calm in most situations, but there are still a few triggers that set him off barking madly. I’ve tried a couple different anti barking collars but he seems to be able to shake them out of place so they aren’t effective. I tried one of those ultra sonic things in the house, but it absolutely traumatized my other dog. I tried the spray collar, and that worked for about 10 minutes before he got used to the spray.

I know lots of people think shock collars are inhumane, but I don’t want to get into that debate here. I’m looking for recommendations for shock collars that are triggered by sound rather than vibrations, so it’s effective even if is not placed right at the dog’s vocal cords. I also think having that big box of the collar right under the chin must be uncomfortable when lying down. Is there a magic anti barking collar that is comfortable for a dog to wear, but also effective?

Real happy with the Dinjoo no-bark collar we got recently. It is noise activated. Has 8 setting levels, gives a beep, then buzz before zapping the dog. Dog has 20 seconds between barks before activating. Dog has ample warning, makes choice to bark and get zapped…or NOT bark after buzz. Rechargable, lasts days if dog is not barking. I think it was less than $45.

I wanted self-activating, since I am not always around when he was carrying on.

He got “self-trained” in very short order. He gives a warning bark now for people in the driveway, but not carrying on about it. No more endless barking while playing with the other, non-barking dog! He is a Shelty, well known for being noisy and diggers. But I love all all his other good things! My choice. Ha ha

Beagle may be a bit more hard headed about barking. They ARE bred to be determined in efforts, make noise to follow them with! So the higher settings may be needed. Shelty is “soft” to train, wants to please me, so setting was lower, still VERY effective on him. He still runs hard, just not barking while doing it.

I consider the collar a great tool for a good price. Peace reigns again, here in the valley!

I have this: Sport Dog SBC-8

I’ve never had a nuisance barker but my youngest Brittany is one. He winds himself up and will bark (especially as it gets dark in the evening) incessantly - head up, muzzle to the sky and even lifting his front feet off the ground if he really gets going.

He doesn’t seem to mind the collar - it worked right away. I call it “Barky” as in “hey buddy, you need Barky!” and he comes running. It’s a little weird.

I like that the collar has some safety measures - if they bark more than a certain number of times it will shut itself off. Which makes me feel better in the event there was a real issue – bear in the yard, or an intruder, etc. I wouldn’t mind if he barked until someone came running!

Thanks to both of you. I’ll look into those.

I have a drawer with 5-6 different bark collars for my beagle. None of them worked. What worked is crating him when I wasn’t home, keeping attached to me and every time he started to bark to teach him to go to his bed or place for a tasty chew. He’s far from perfect but not a nuisance barker anymore. Now if I can get him to stop swiping food off the table.

Wow - great to hear from another beagle owner! I laughed out loud about the drawer of collars! It’s encouraging to hear that training is working for yours.
