I’m a dressage/event rider and I always ride in full seats and love them. However, wanting to dabble in hunters I am planning on getting a pair of knee patch tan breeches as well. The last pair I tried, I can’t remember what brand, were a bit shiny and were sooooo slippery! Is there a particular material or brand that the material has a better grip that you recommend so I’m not trying to sit on a skating rink? Thanks!
HKM, Cavalleria Toscana or animo. They all have ranges with grippy patches.
I have a bad habit of collecting breeches. Of all the pairs I own, I would say the Kerrits Cross Over breeches are by far the grippiest knee patches. I tend not to wear them unless I am having a jumping lesson or if I suspect it might be a spooky day.

They seem to be the same Kerrits Nubuck material that Kerrits uses for all their knee patches, but this model in particular is way grippier than the other Kerrits I own. They are expensive at list price, but you can often find them on sale in off-season colors. Check out Wind River Horse on facebook for deals on Kerrits breeches.
The new Tredstep with the super grippy knee patches - the almost plastic ones. So awesome.
I’m a huge fan of Tailored Sportsman. They’re pricey, but completely worth it.
The treadstep ones look cool. I am also a huge tailored sportsman fan, I don’t slip in them at all
Animos are very grippy… but it also may be your saddle. I had an older saddle that was really slick with certain breeches. Now I have a different saddle and it’s all grip pretty much regardless of the breeches.
Have fun in the Hunter ring - Love the Hunters
I say wear your full seats! Fashion be damned. I occasionally rode in full seats in hunters, and I can’t say a judge ever made a comment. If other riders commented, well…who cares, right? If you prefer full-seats, I say have at 'em.
But if you do want a pair of knee-patches just because, then I say Tailored Sportsman or Kerrits, but I haven’t tried some of the other brands mentioned in this thread.
I second (or third?) the Tredstep breechs with the silicone strips! They are actually pretty afforable as breeches go and the fit of them are very flattering for everyone I’ve seen them on. I forget the name of the brand I saw, I’m sure there are quite a few, but they have ones that are like 3/4 patches. Not a full seat but the patches come much higher up your mid inner thigh area.
I LOVE my Tailored Sportsmans, and don’t slip in them at all. But I second the above poster who recommended Kerrit’s. I have several Sit Tight (the “warm” version for winter) and those things are sticky! Great for blustery days and trail rides.
As a reformed full-seat only rider myself, I would recommend the Tailored Sportsman Trophy Hunter front zips. I will even jump in these with no worry. They don’t feel slippery in the saddle and I like the extra range of motion for my legs versus my Kerrits grippy full-seats. They are comfortable, perfect rise to be flattering but not show booty-crack, wash well, and are a much better length for my 5’4" height than Kerrits.
just got an email from a friend that Pikeur also came out with a non slip knee patch breech. Looks nice! Looks just like the TS, actually and from Amira Equi is about the same price ($170).
My Pikeurs are comfy and not slippery at all, same with the TS. I think it depends on material, the more expensive brands offer the best materials IMO.
FITS just came out with a new knee patch that has the deerskin of their full seats instead of the normal suede at the knee. The Megan: http://www.fitsriding.com/collection/A616
I show in FITS Bekas right now, but I also have a pretty sticky saddle.
Thank you for the suggestions! So helpful! I’m going to give a couple of them a try and see how they feel. I think the ones I had were a bit shiny so the seat was seriously slippery! I don’t need to be glued in but a decent amount of fabric grip is necessary as I almost slid off mounting in those puppies! I appreciate the leads!
