Best non stretch, high quality stirrup leathers for short riders?

I’m shopping for a new pair of leathers, and having difficulty finding anything that’s below 50 inches. At 4’11", the longest leather I can have is 48 inches, but no one I’ve looked into within a good price range sells them! Would like to pay around $120 max, but $130 or so wouldn’t be so bad for some really good ones. Suggestions?

I’m 5’2" and have the 48" leathers. They’re nice enough but the stitching starts to wear after several years of use (think one horse, 5-6 rides per week). However, I keep going back to them because of the size. I’m on my third pair.

I get the Bates stirrup leathers in 48". They’re nylon lined and wear fabulously. I have two pairs on H/J saddles and another pair in black on my dressage saddle, and they’re looking great after several years of use. They are a little stiff/thick, so not ideal if you need to adjust stirrup length often.
My most favorite pair of stirrup leathers are the CWD in 48" they are buttery soft and gorgeous, but also a lot more expensive than the Bates leathers.

Short girl reporting in.

Schockemohle’s Chantilly in a 125 cm is usually my recommendation and they are $125, plus come in two shades of brown so can match just about any saddle.

Tory Leather also does a nice 1" wide (unlined) leather in a 48" length if you need something under $100.

Millbrook Leathers has a 115 cm and a 125 cm though looks like they are up to $160 in price?!

Prestige does their very popular lined leathers down to a 120 cm.

I also use the Bates leathers. I think mine are 122 cm, but they also come in 110 cm length, which Dover has in stock right now for $116.99.

@ElementFarm Those are EXACTLY what I’m looking for…only I ordered a pair in 44 inch thinking they would work, but I need the 48 inch in those, turns out. Do you know where I can get them (and if they make 48s in anything other than Heritage)? If the Heritage is what you have, how much do you like it? The leather looks weird in the picture

I am also short, and I ride in Bruno Delgrange leathers and I love them! However, I am unsure of length and price (I got them in a “package” deal with a girth from someone) but knowing Bruno I am almost certain they’ll be too much $… Just my two cents!

CWD are the best, after having them I wouldn’t buy anything else. Well worth the cost IMO

Smartpak has 48" x 3/4" nylon lined.

My problem with leathers are that I am between sizes. I want a 1" wide nylon lined brown leather that is 50-52" long with half or three quarter inch holes not 1" between holes. I tend to just buy 54" with all the other requirements and take them to the local Amish harness shop to have them shortened from the buckle side.

I will NOT add holes to new leathers especially nylon lined ones. But I will have them shortened from the buckle side.

After decades of using the Italian wrapped leathers from Beval, I tried the County Saddlery leathers. In my first ride, I was wondering why I waited so long to try them. They are fantastic, and they do come in a 48" length. They’re a bit more expensive than your budget but are worth it IMO. My daughter has the County leathers on her jump saddle and the SmartPak leathers on her dressage saddle. She says the County leathers are much nicer.

Do you know if the County leathers are lined? It’s not clear from their website.

Yes, the County leathers are lined.

Sounds like OP found a pair, but for future reference these come as small as 36 inches and are really nice. However, the calfskin is only as small as 48. https://www.klselect.com/accessories/stirrup-leathers/

The Tack Room in Camden has the 47" Prestige lines leathers discounted right now. I’ve ridden in the Prestige, CWD, Shockmohle, and Beval leathers at various times and the Prestige are my favorites out of all of them. The Schockemohle and CWD ones are both really nice too but they didn’t wear as well as my Prestige ones. https://www.tackroomonline.com/prestige-non-stretch-stirrup-leathers.html

these come in 44 inch leathers. (That’s what I have) and they are fabulous. The price point is excellent too.

Bartville Harness has nice leathers, both nylon lined and unlined. And they have both regular leathers and leathers for jockeys, so they have all kinds of different lengths.

Henri de Rivera (however it is spelled) in children’s sizes are lined. I’ve had mine for 8 years, still going strong. I am 5’4" and I hate to punch holes. Child size works great. Good luck.

I’m not sure what’s meant by “non-stretch,” since all stirrup leathers stretch.

My top stirrup leather recommendation is always, always Gary Mundy, who can make you leathers in the precise length you desire, in addition to numerous other custom options.

If you want lined calfskin ones, then his won’t suit. But he can do many other configurations. They are the best leathers, and well under your price range.

Thanks for your suggestions everybody!! I’ve been riding with some new Bates leathers and they rock!
