Best Paddock Boot for a Wider Foot?

I have feet that are… shaped like a duck’s. And my second toe is longer than my big toe. If I measure myself, I should fit in an average- (B-) width shoe. But, based on the cramps I get after, say, 1/2 hour to an hour or so, I probably need a C width. I haven’t seen many boots with this option, though.

I was thinking about trying men’s paddock boots (since I’m an 8 1/2 to 9, a men’s 7 might do the trick).

Thoughts?

Also, favorite half chaps (not suede)?

Thanks!

I tend to buy men’s shoes in a lot of cases…I have short but fat feet. LOL

Tennis shoes? Men’s New Balance.
Paddock Boots? I have two pair…a men’s Justin Roper (I know, not English, but they work) and a pair of Ariats.

My field boots are womens and I must say, they’re tight and I’ve stretched out the outside part quite a bit.

Ariat used to make a model called the Hanover that had a wider toe box and I have wide feet too and they were a God send. For some reason they stopped making them so when my pair of Hanovers wear out I’ll be shopping too. If someone knows who makes wide paddocks, I’d love to know.

Can’t help much on half chaps.

I have pretty average feet but I think the Ariats run a bit narrow. Mine wear well, but if they fail, it’s always below my big toe where they are too narrow.

My Grand Prixs are too wide for my B width. You might want to give them a try. They are not the quality they once were and not cheap, either. But I think they do run wide.

I wear Dansko’s, they fit the best for a wide foot, but sadly no longer make them. Next I am going to buy men’s for the width. Work’s with winter boots so why not paddocks? lol

Blundstones hands down. My 6’2" sons both wear them, my husband wears them and me with my size 11 women’s feet wear them. Nothing better.

We use the ariat chaps - just get the wide width for everyone.

I second the Blunnies!

I thought I’d never be able to wear proper paddock boots with pointy toes on my wide feet! At the tack shop they reccommended the Blundstones (which I found too bulky and heavy) and the Ariat Heritage III RT.

RT must stand for “round toe”, because there is PLENTY of room in the toe for me. After 6 months of wear, they actually feel a little too wide! I love them.

Lynne (very much an adult beginner!)

Blundstones. Hands down.

ProChaps for half chaps.

I may have to check the Ariat RT.

I don’t have the go-to-men’s-sizes option, because while my feet are wide they are short, my running shoes are a 6.5 and my Ariat Terrains are a 6…but too big and I can take them off while laced so tightly the sides were the laces are touch. Fat chance finding tall boots too. Sucks.

I agree that Ariat Hanovers are a nice, wide boot. As someone mentioned, though, they have been discontinued (go figure). Recently, however, I have seen them on some of the clearance pages of different websites. If you “google” them, you can probably find some for a good price.

Good luck!

There’s some name for that second toe being longer. I have it too.
I got men’s Mtn horse tall boots, unfortunately they don’t make them in a 7, and Mtn horse paddock boots also, they were boy’s/women’s. They are still a bit tight but leather stretches. When I bashed my baby toe I could wear them, though it wasn’t fun. I had to go out and buy new running shoes for work or I would never have lasted, and found Reeboks at Kohl’s in ex-wide 4E - they look like duck shoes alright - heavenly!

The Hanover seems to now be the Heritage III RT (round toe). The Hanover/Heritage RT, though not attractive, is definitely more comfortable for a wide foot. It took me quite some time to get accustomed to riding in them, as they feel bulkier in the stirrup than a narrower boot. But my feet do thank me for them.

Thanks for the replies! Very helpful… I’ve never owned either Ariat or Blundstone boots, so I’ll have to try.

My first pair of paddock boots were Perris. They hurt for… about 7 months, then finally stretched. Alas, after a year, the soles wore thin and none of the shoemakers thought it worth resoling them. So, I tried Grand Prixs. And maybe I got the wrong model, or maybe the problem was exacerbated because the shank does not fit my (flat) foot. Because almost 1.5 (or more) years later? My right foot STILL kills me if I wear them longer than an hour. Fortunately, I’ve worn them enough that I can justify a new pair.

Morton’s toe.

I have very wide (and long feet - wear 11 wide) and Ariats are the only one’s that have the larger size that is actually wide enough without having to hit the men’s sizes.

The Hanovers do feel a little bulkier but they are by far the most comfortable shoes I own, including sneakers. I guess I’ll be going for the Heritage RT next time. Strangley enough, my Ariat tall boots fit just fine through the foot and aren’t too narrow. Go figure.

boots

I have a pair of Ariat, wide toed boots for sale. They are a half size too big for me, but otherwise are great. I wore them a few times and bought the size down, which I love. Size 9 Ladies. I have flippers too, and these fit that shape foot well. email vbunny@gmail.com if you want pics, and a cheap pair of boots

Love my Redbacks but no good in the stirrup.

I agree! I gave Ariats a try after hearing other people rave about them but discovered, much too late after the fact, that they were indeed too narrow for my feet. I’m really petite, with size 6-6.5 feet that are of average width (never needed “wide” in any other shoes). Initially my Ariat Heritage boots fit okay and seemed comfortable enough…until after about 2hrs walking around, doing relatively light work. There really wasn’t enough cushioning, support and space for the feet to expand/swell up and I really needed something that I can wear for the whole day. I ended up resorting to my far more comfortable Uggs (I know, cringe!).
