What is the hottest, most active, affordable horse property area in the Raleigh/ Durham/ Chapel Hill area? Need a decent school system as well.
Thanks in advance!

It depends. Pittsboro is the up and coming social scene revamping the downtown. Kightdale and North of Durham are cheaper and easier on the pocketbook. Johnson County is nice to but farther out. I had no issues with Wake County Schools.
The school systems are all decent there except Durham inner city and Southwest Raleigh.
Horse properties are getting hard to find there due to development.
More information please. what do you mean by Hottest?
How much money are you going to spend. Chapel Hill area is most expensive maybe a small old house and 5 acres for 450K but it will sell in a day. Where are you going to work , if you don’t have to drive to work then east of Raleigh will be more affordable.
The triangle is rapidly becoming a large suburban area and the horse community is dying. In the last two years most of the horse farms around me have gone to development.
There are some beautiful places west of Chapel Hill but 800K . Wake county land prices at least closer in are 50K an acre.
Pittsboro has a 7000acre development being built now so again land prices are skyrocketing.
North of Durham is still rural but I don’t know the schools ,north of Hillsborough may be more reasonable.
If you want affordable which I take to be under 500K then you have to live far out from towns and work.
I know all this because development is driving me out AGAIN!. This is the second farm I’ll lose to growth and I think I’m done.
I can’t find a small farm with a nice house anywhere here where I’d want to live.
Yikes! Thanks for letting me know! What about Hillsboro? Still accessible?
Hillsborough is accessible to Durham and Chapel Hill. It’s a hike to Raleigh. Getting more expensive. North Hillsborough, toward Rougemont/Bahama/N Durham Co is far away from EVERYTHING. East of Wake Co (Johnston, for example), or South (Lee/Sanford area) are more affordable, but really only convenient to parts of Raleigh and not the rest of the Triangle.
I would debate the claim that all the schools are good… Orange County is ok. Durham is improving–even the city schools. Wake is one of the biggest districts in the country (look it up), and very disparate from school to school. Chatham is still largely poor and rural. Chapel Hill/Carrboro City Schools are some of the best in the state, but our state struggles to pay its teachers competitive salaries, and there is a lot of turnover.
Patricia Roberts is just about the best horse realtor in the area–I’d suggest getting up with her.
