Best place to list horse for sale online?

What is the best place to list a horse for sale online?

I am not someone who sells a lot of horses but am looking to sell a 10yo warmblood with great bloodlines. I have enjoyed him a lot over these past few years but with kids and work no longer have the time he needs to continue developing.

I’m very wary of Dreamhorse and some of the other listing sites because I’m worried they cater to less advanced riders–not sure if this is really the case. I’m not interested in listing him on Facebook unless someone can really convince me that’s the best approach.

Any thought on where I could list that would be more productive? He’d be geared towards the Hunter/Jumper or Dressage audience.

If you think you can sell your horse on pedigree alone, the warmblood sales site is pretty much the only one I know of where you can search by sire/etc so that’s always worth a look.

That said, I see the most traffic in specifically curated facebook groups. There’s at least one specific dressage one I know of that has quite a bit of traffic. That said, you might have to take the time to post your ad in response to other people’s “in search of” queries - which might be a good option for you, if you’re trying to vet buyers personally. (You can also advertise in regional facebook groups - but these are less discipline oriented, so the spectrum of interaction is much wider in my experience.)

And all of that aside: Dreamhorse & the like still are decent options. You’ll get the gamut of buyers, I’m sure, but I know at least one professional right now who is actively searching and her first stop is always dreamhorse. If you’re worried about his next home (seeking an experienced rider) I would just prepare questions ahead of time to vet your buyers (and have a prepared list of responses to decline people if you’ve decided they aren’t the home you want for him).

Thanks so much. I also really appreciate your current thoughts on Dreamhorse. I know you can never guarantee a horse’s future but I’d like to make sure I’m not wasting my time or prospective buyers time by listing inappropriately.
