Best place to sell a Thorowgood?

So, I’m “upgrading” from the T8 adjustable gullet AP - a great starter saddle for my young horse - and am biting the bullet: getting a dressage saddle and a jumping saddle (just acquired at a good price from a fellow COTHer  )

I have a Hastilow dressage saddle on trial and was hoping to give them the T8 in trade (I bought it from them about a year and a half ago), but apparently between their percentage and the “used saddle” depreciation, I would only be getting $500 for it from them. I paid $895 for it - barely used – it was a demo. It’s still in very good shape

From what I gather on the Board, there is a real market for them and they aren’t easy to find - so it shouldn’t be hard to sell. Should I put it up for sale on Facebook, or try putting it on consignment somewhere? I figure if I ask $795 for it, even with a 25% commission to the tack shop I would be a little ahead of the game vs giving it to the saddle fitter in trade.

Thoughts?

You might have a hard time getting $795, there is one on their now for $650 that is the same model, also is excellent condition with the gullets. But for a saddle like this the Facebook groups are probably your best bet. You can also search “ISO” ads for this type of saddle. The biggest group is the English Tack Trader page. Use Pay Pal and allow for the Pay Pal fee.

Try the facebook tack groups or, eBay. I bought two Thorowgoods off of eBay and I had to wait awhile for them to pop up.

I paid around $500 for a like-new T4.

Yeah, I sold my Thorowgood for what I paid for it (only paid $250- sold it for that) on the “Wintec & other synthetic saddles for sale” FB group. eBay is also a good option.

Thanks, folks – all helpful!

I paid 400 for my like new 16.5" Thorowgood T4 Compact in excellent condition on a Facebook group. I have a 17.5" same saddle, I purchased for 350 in good used condition with fittings off Ebay.
