Best places to live, climate-wise

Where do you guys feel is the best place to live, climate-wise? I suppose it depends on your ideal, but my ideal is just sort of a happy medium. Having lived in Arkansas (WAY too hot), Wisconsin (WAY WAY too cold), and Florida (again, WAY too hot… but at least you don’t have to shovel heat), I can’t say I’ve ever lived in my ideal climate. I thought perhaps a state on the East coast midway between North and South, like NC or VA, but everyone says they’re still very hot in the summer. I’ve been to NC in the summer and don’t remember it being that hot, but coming from Florida I think I dulled some nerve endings or something by now. So then I thought of PA, but I don’t know if I could take the cold! So maybe something like Tennessee or Kentucky? What about WEST Virginia? Maryland?

Not that I think I could actually move there (we’ll see), but I like these topics.

Florida…it’s no vacation. Unless of course you like 120 degree weather with 183% humidity that sucks the very slobber from your horse’s mouth!!

Where I was born and spent 30 years. Warm days and cool breezy nights, we never had air conditioning. Rain? Mud? Huh? If it rained we cancelled the show.
Downside?
Four seasons in L.A. are fire, flood, drought and earthquake.
Costs me half to both live and keep the horse here in Ohio.
Dealt with an F4 tornado 1/2 mile away. Killed 5 people and trashed 500 homes (no trailers). Me? Storm woke me up at 5am. Sounded like wierd thunder, you know, like a train. DUH. Denial can be good. Though buried in the debris field this did not beat the 7.5 earthquake.
I can deal with 4 real seasons and tornadoes for the money I save living here.

Daytimedrama, shhhhh!!! Don’t tempt the evil fire/flood/mudslide gods!!! The summer has been incredibly mild…haven’t even turned on the AC in the house. This week we are paying for the mild 1st half of summer with a big heat wave. But hey, it’s a dry heat!!!

Puerto Rico, you rarely will have to use a sheet in the winter from what I’ve heard, and I can attest to the summer, the only time it’s really hot it 1 hr a day around 3.
And it’s rarely humid, and there is always a nice summer breeze. Also, chance of colic b/c of winter/summer change-nope, practiclly same weather all year round-av. temp. here: 83 degrees.

My horse is 1200 miles away, and it’s depressing

My best friend lives in White Rock.
I was suppose to go stay with her and go to Thunderbird this weekend, but alas I am too sick.
Although I do have to go soak Poncho’s hoof tonite.

Alaska? Hahahaha

Very cold winters
Random Snow In May

I totally forgot about the grasshoppers!! We have these pre-historic looking ones that are about the size of a fist. They are HUGE!!

We have santa driving REINDEER. Love the tradition. One place has santa driving reindeer while stuck in a porta-potty.

We also get LOTS of snow. They don’t even cancel school unless there is more than 4 ft in a day(and then ONLY if its windy more than about 55 mph)

No tornadoes. Next? Okay, what about the East Coast? Yes, I’ve heard about that lovely California weather, but say moving was in the cards, Westward it would not be. Unfortunately.

The closer to the ocean the better for riding. But, the land is a bit pricey . Last week when it was something like 103F in Riverside and the San Fernando Valley, there was fog at the beach and it was no more than the high 70’s and sunny a few miles inland. I live about three miles from the ocean and don’t have air conditioning. Maybe three times a year I wish I had it. And, where does my horse live…Riverside.

Yes, PR sounds divine. There must be a catch. Oh, I know- NO HUNTERS!

Santa Barbara sounds great, but the East Coast is so nice for horses.

Yes, MN has beautiful autumns, but it seems to only last a few weeks. I was referring to W.Va and VA as having an absolutely gorgeous autumn season that lasts, and lasts…only good part of living here!

Say…how cheap are the horses? Maybe I should buy a horse from Alaska!

Maybe we need a Grasshoppers Clique.

Ironically enough, I have a horse named Grasshopper. Big and somewhat annoying, too! But she’s lots cuter.

Southern Oregon

I went to College in Southern Oregon,Ashland, and loved it there.
There seem to be much more horse activity in the area than 30 years ago.
Some small amount of Christmas snow but the rest of the year is awesome.
Yes I would love Southern Oregon, Ashland, Talent, Medford areas.

And the current standings in the Perfect Weather Competition are as follows, right?

Virginia, West Virginia, Kentucky- Too humid/wet

VA- Weird icy winters

MN- Beautiful fall seasons

MD- Drop of a hat weather, same with DE, PA, NJ, NY

Ohio- Tornadoes, but cheap and 4 seasons.

So what exactly is the mid-Atlantic?

But it was about 15 yrs ago when I lived there. I was transferred to TN, all I knew was that it was that “skinny” state, right?

It was a bit humid in the summer, like I would be sweating just taking the golf clubs to the club house, but all in all it was beautiful.

Did a little riding at Brass Lantern Farm, just school horses, but nice place.

Of the places I have lived in the past, Nashville is the one I would consider moving back to if I had to choose. The others you can keep.

“The older I get, the better I used to be.”

Long Island has pretty decent weather…being surrounded by water keeps it fairly mild. I go to school in Ohio and the winters can get pretty cold…but not horrible…it seems to rain a lot there though (the whole lake effect thing…I’m in North West Ohio).

White Rock is great. I miss it. Too bad you couldn’t make it to Thunderbird, Bumpkin. Unfortunately I couldn’t go either. Maybe we’ll all meet next year.

Tofino. That’s the name of the place I was thinking of, on western Van Island. It’s beautiful. Has anyone else been there?

you can buy something worthless for a few thousand

you can buy something worthless WITH a show name for $25,000+++
