I am feeling a bit helpless in selling my used CWD that is in great shape. I am on over a dozen FB groups and I just posted on Tack Tack. There is SO MUCH product out there. It is at a $2000USD price point so not CRAZY large amount of money. CWD might take it towards my new saddle but I would get maybe $1500 so just trying to maximize outside of last resort. Thoughts?
You could consign! Selling saddles is hard, especially right now (Jan is a notoriously slow retail month).
Highlign Tack
Redwood Tack (she also buys outright)
Double Oak Tack (formally DFW Tack)
Pik & Louie Saddlery
All great places with great success!
Unless you can sell it yourself, I would trade it in to CWD if you are planning to buy a new one. I have sold two saddles for two different friends using consignment people that came highly recommended from others on this forum, it couldn’t have been easier and you avoid all the aggravation of trials, shipping back and forth etc. but you pay a commission that is at least 20%-25% with some charging as much as 50% so I don’t think the $500 difference trading it in to CWD is bad at all.
VERY good points… going to email redwood and then maybe just call it a day with CWD directly. its in such good shape but yes the market is flooded.
I sold both of the saddles I referred to in my earlier post outright, you get less money but you get the money right away and don’t have to worry about it going out on trials until it finds the right home either. I wish I could remember who I used to sell them, Highlign Tack was not accepting any saddles the last time I contacted them.
As of this week, at least, Highline is definitely accepting at least some saddles because I just shipped them one.
I sold both of my CWD saddles on Facebook Marketplace. I think you need to be flexible on your terms and available to let saddle be tried. It helps to be in area that is popular with horse people.
I only accepted CASH/ZELLE/VENMO.
Each one took about 6 months to sell, so hang in there and repost whenever possible. Even if it means taking a few new photos to make it look like a new listing.
To be realistic, I’d use the following price points:
Mademoiselle
2021and newer: 3500-4500k
2020 or earlier: 2500-3400k
SE01, SE02, SE03
2021 and newer: $3000
2017-2020: $2000-2500
2016 and earlier: below $2k
Trading in sounds great, until they try to sell you another $9-10k saddle that you’ll be lucky to get 50% of that price if it doesn’t fit a year later.
That’s exactly it. I did have to get a new one for $19171641 haha because my mare is way different than my retired horse. So they will take my saddle at $1500 prior to my new one being delivered. So I have about another 2 months to make this happen! I am priced around $2000 or slightly below depending on platform.
Aiken Tack Exchange
Any experience buying (long distance)?
I bought a jump saddle from Aiken Tack Exchange. Tried 4, kept 1. I purchased 2 Voltaire Adelaides from 2 other places but I knew what I needed since I had been using my trainer’s Voltaire.
