Best price/place to find 12 and 22 foot lines (ropes), and sticks with string?

I have a NH trainer working with my coming 4 year old (I have done groundwork basics with her since she was a weanling and she was briefly backed last fall), and though I use the usual “training tools” to work with her at home, I would like to add the ropes (and stick) to my collection - trainer has used them to good effect, and I would like to add to my toolbox.

Obviously they are available on the popular NH trainers’ websites ;), but the prices tend to be on the high side; I’m wondering whether I could find the same quality equipment slightly cheaper somewhere else?

TIA!

Make them - 1" or1 1/2" nylon webbing in your choice of colour, some heavy duty snaps w/swivels and rivets. You can make them what ever length you require.

You make them? Link to your work?

Or you mean I can make them?? Not sure about that…:stuck_out_tongue:

I can but was actually saying they are easy to make. If you can form a burr on a rivet, you can make them. Learned the art of fixing things when I was a kid.

FWIW, shipping from Canada would be horrendous

Ha!

Alas, I can do no such thing, unfortunately

My late great father used to be able to splice lines (he was a sailor, among other things), but I inherited no such talent…

Looking for a cheaper source than say, Parelli.

How about these?? http://www.bigdweb.com/Ground-Driving-Lines-Cotton/productinfo/28-34/

I did apprentice as a harness maker eons ago so that helped me too but most was learned when I was a kid.

Paul Taylor. God…I could live in that place.

These are great - and cheap! I already “made” some long lines, went to Lowes and bought soft line, cut it into 22 foot “reins”, taped the ends, and put a bowline knot in each end with a swivel snap attachment which I put on the bit rings

I’m looking more for this type of thing: https://shop.parelli.com/catalog/equipment/ropes/product/15315-hr03000

They also have the 22 foot line (with the leather end), and the “carrot stick”, though it’s really just a stick with a lash on the end.

I have a driving whip and a longe whip, but neither are as useful for the groundwork I have in mind…

Double Diamond makes nice stuff.

Aaaaaaaaaah, see?? You CAN make things!! What you cobbled together is going to last a long time - have seen loads of people, myself included, make cotton rope lines for harness breaking.

Try looking for a 3-4’ driving whip…check the Standardbred racing section of any online catalogue for that

They have all the NH style stuff and I’ve been pleased with the quality of what I’ve purchased.

I can make my own halters and leads…but it takes me a long time to come up with a substandard product. It’s worth it to me to just buy quality and be done with it.

Thanks, everyone!

Ha, yeah well my “self-made stuff” is good enough for the long lining, but I do need the heavier rope with the brass swivel head fitting and the popper end - along with the (dreaded, infamous :p) carrot stick…I already have a stiff 8 foot driving whip, I had to special order it but it’s useful for my long lining, not so much for the natural horsemanship stuff.

I think gaitedincali got it – thanks for the link – that’s what I need!

If you can find the snap you want, most lines allow you to swap snaps out.

The quality is excellent, the prices are reasonable, and the service is quick.

Thanks, everyone!

Handcrafted Jewels. I’ve been ordering all my rope halters and mecates and reins and etc from Keitha for years. Great quality and you can’t beat the price.

Hi, you’ve gotten some good suggestions.
Check out http://www.knottygirlz.com/. They make lead ropes and long lines out of similar materials for a much cheaper price tag.
