Preferably something breathable yet durable?
My young mare just got shoes for the first time about three weeks ago, she wears bell boots all around because the farrier had to shoe her “full”, and over the last week or so she has come up with some small scrapes on the inside of her front cannons - possibly from cavorting in the muddy pasture, or maybe from just lying down and getting up with the shoes on. Today there was a little bump and a bit of puffiness in the splint bone area (no heat or lameness), and she has an old, cold splint on the opposite for leg which never bothered her and has been there for about eight months – but I don’t want to tempt fate so I’m going to have to bite the bullet and boot her for turnout now.
I put Woof boots on her tonight for turnout, but I’m looking for something reasonably inexpensive that she can wear every day when out – preferably something reasonably breathable and that won’t rub her. I use boots when I ride her, and hopefully can get the BM to remove the boots in the morning when she is brought in so she doesn’t have to wear them 24/7.
Recommendations?? After 30-40 years in horses this is the first time I’ve ever had to put boots on anything for T/O. I hate to do it, but the alternative is risky. She is out overnight for about 12 hours.
