I am a 40-something rider and am trying to parlay my love of trails and outdoors into second-flight foxhunting. I ride rented or leased horses, often draft crosses. The stable is happy to provide all tack, but my undercarriage-of-a-certain-age gives me grief if the horse’s saddle isn’t right for ME, too. I would like to have my own saddle. I understand there are adjustable gullets, flexible trees, and much more on the market. I also understand that some “mediums” with a nice-sized channel can miraculously fit a variety of horses. I know like a slightly deeper, softer seat that sort of locks you into a secure, balanced position. Have not done will with narrow twists or spartan close-contacts. Oh, and am not looking to spend a small fortune…a quality used item is fine with me. Any make/model recommendations or features to look for?
I run a busy hunt hire string and do not allow outside saddles. Most will not.

A long day hunting in the wrong saddle for a horse can put it out of commission for a long time.
Would a quality seat cover help you? Even as real sheepskin one would be cheaper than a new/quality used saddle.
