My mare has a very coarse tail. I wash it with Suave or Head & Shoulders then slather Suave Conditioner on it. It’s nice for 1 day. Looking for a product (s) to really soften and keep it silky and tangle free for not alot of $$. Don’t like Mane & Tail. Also need suggestions for a leave in product. Thanks

I mix up a leave in conditioner that’s 1/3 water, 1/3 conditioner (I like Mane & Tail) and 1/2 silicone product like Laser Sheen (the concentrate is cheaper than Showsheen) and spray on daily - moisturizes and prevents tangles.
Also apply silicone product after washing, conditioning and rinsing but before tail is dry - seals in moisture.
Thanks!
I like Ausie Mega Moist shampoo and conditioner. I find the conditioner to be slippery and detangling, and moisturizing.
There is a brand of horse conditioner that I love even more. Just not sure it’s made anymore. I have a stash in my wash stall, so I’ll get the name and will let you know.
I would recommend Ecolicious Equestrian products. They are all great, but I really love the De-Stress, the Moisture Maniac and the Silky for manes and tails.
I cared for a string of Lusitanos/ Andalusians for a period of time. Their go-to for the long, course hair was Wen Pomegranate formula. Yes, you had to be hella careful about rinsing it all out or there’d be humidity/ moisture trapped under that weight of hair and cause sores, but overall, it was wonderful.
We also used Infusium 23 1 & 2 on them. We followed up with Argan oil as a leave-in treatment.
Really left a nice mane and tail.
My current go-to is the E3 Argan Oil Shampoo. Not cheap, as it is a horse product, but wow does it leave my horse’s coat and tail nice. And a little goes a long way. I tried it off the recommendation of a Gypsy Vanner enthusiast. I figured if anyone knew anything about keeping hair shiny and detangled, she would!
I love Mane-ly Long Hair. Just ran out, but want to try it on my own course hair because it was miraculous for the horses!

Thanks for this! I have been using $$$ human shampoo/conditioner with Argan oil with great results …will try this instead.
