Best Shimmable Pad?

I split the ride on pony pants with a teen at the barn. I ride in a dressage saddle, she rides in her jump saddle. Saddles have been fine the last 2.5 years on this pony. Within the last month we both notice our saddles slipping left and that pony has built more shoulder on the right side.

Pony Pants is a school horse washout who we adore but don’t own and need some good options on what kind of shimmable pad can help us through this asymetrical patch. We are aware of her imbalance and are working on that under saddle.

I like my winderen shim pad - not cheap but the pocket is one open pocket with felt shims that don’t move, so there’s a lot of flexibility in where exactly you place the shim. You can also make shims out of other materials if you want. They are thicker and can be a little stiff in the winter; recommend getting the slim one if you get one. The regular is thick like an Ogilvy.

My preference is for the Thinline Trifecta, which has a big open pocket that allows you to position shims to front, center, or rear. I prefer that over pads like ECP that have 3 defined pockets because this prevents the pressure points of the velcro closure and the gap in between two shims.

For small areas of asymmetry I’ve actually had quite good luck using little circles cut from foam or yoga mats on top of Thinline’s shims. My favorite for wither hollows is cut up running shoe insoles.
