Best shipping boots/ quick wraps

So every time my horse trailers I either wrap or boot her, I’ve seen horses get injured on the trailer that could have easily been prevented.

I currently have standard no bows and Back on Track quick wraps. In the heat of summer I feel the BOT wraps are too hot. I’m currently looking at getting another set of boots since I find when I’m on my own trail riding wrapping with the no bows is hard. Any suggestions on good brands? I’ve seen ones with mesh lining for cooling, does this really help?

any recommendations welcome thanks.

There are a few versions of mesh lined shipping boots out there, like these from Dover:

For quick wraps, the ones from Premier have done very well for me. Easy to put on and a reasonable substitute for standing wraps.

But for shipping, I really prefer the full coverage of the tall shipping boots.

My horse is vehemently opposed to tall shipping boots, so I found the DuraTech Rapid Wrap No Bow quick wraps from Schneider’s. I really like them - super easy to put on and the four Velcro straps make them easy to adjust. They stay in place well and don’t get too hot. Definitely my go-to for shipping.

I have a few sets of the Dover shipping boots. Easy on/off, great coverage, they stay in place and you can throw them in the wash. Having the legs sweat while shipping is not detrimental to the horse in any way shape or form.

Thanks for the responses. My mare is a bit of a drama queen and will act like anything put on her legs (polos, vet wrap, standing wraps, ankle boots , really anything) is crippling for the first minute taking huge steps and flinging her legs around. Then she’ll go back to acting normal.
I have looked at the Dover mesh lined ones. Just wondering if mesh or other cooling liners really make a difference.

If your horse has finer boned legs, then Hoy brand shipping boots are wonderful. If they aren’t particularly fine, then Dover makes wonderful shipping boots as well. I’ve never used anything mesh lined and have never seen horses sweat in shipping boots unless its 90f+. I agree that the BOT wraps are too hot to use in the heat of the summer, but regular shipping boots are usually fine

I have the Premier Equine quick wraps. They are essentially BOT wraps without the ceramic so without the heat. You can get them from Smartpak but it is cheaper to order directly from PE (even including shipping.) You can also get magnetic or ceramic pillow inserts you can change out if you want the heat technology when it’s colder out.

They run pretty true to size. My horse is a 16.2hh medium bone OTTB. Medium fits him well in the front but is slightly small in the back. I should’ve ordered him a large for his hinds, but the medium does okay.

The liners are removable and washable–wash them alone because they have Velcro and they can ruin other fabrics like saddle pads (ask me how I know…oops.)

No answers but I’ve been eyeballing these “turnout boot” options that seem to be more popular in Europe.

@WildGooseChase - Do you mind providing a link to the Hoy shipping boots?

Dover shipping boots saved my horse’s life in a wreck. A piece of metal off the trailer cut through the boot and into his fetlock. It only required a few stitches. Had he been bare legged the vet was quite sure his injury would have been fatal.

I love the Dover shipping boots. I like the extra coverage.

So I just did some quick searching and the actual brand name is New Equine Wear. The boot model is called the Hoy Travel Wise Boot. I’ve used them in the past, but have never purchased any. that being said, they seem evasive to my searches on the internet. I found reviews for them, and one place that sells them, rideyourbest.com but they are in the UK. You’ll have to make sure they ship internationally if you’re not in the UK. I am in the USA and it appears that you may be too…

I had one opposed, and I left them on him overnight. That fixed the “opposed to tall shipping boots” opinion.

My current mare is more apt to smash her face on the ceiling, so I’ve put pipe insulation all over it to stop her from giving herself a nosebleed. Again.

(she’s 8. We haul all over, all the time. She can be really smart, or really not smart. I just doctor the wounds.)

These are my favorites. https://www.horze.eu/zandona-travel-%26-stable-boots

I can appreciate the idea of leaving them on overnight to sort that out, but it’s just not a battle I feel the need to have with my guy. He’s good with the quick wraps or regular standing bandages, so I’m happy to let him have his way.
