Hello, I’m on the hunt for a new show coat and keep finding that while the length looks good (maybe even on the short side) on the model, I’m left with a jacket that is too long (and often one that expects my waist to still be where my hips go, which creates a very unattractive look). I’m barely 5’3" and built small and fit, but not a waif. Any suggestions for us shorter riders? Thank you!
Grand Prix makes jackets in “short”. I had to special order mine, but have seen them very occasionally offered on ebay.
I’m a bit smaller than you and have found that kids’ coats often fit me better than adult coats. All of mine are Grand Prix - most of the other brands are too boxy on my frame.
I’m almost exactly your size, 5’3, athletic build. I love the Horseware Ireland show coats, I have one in black and one in burgundy. I also recently got an Ovation Destiny coat that fits perfectly.
There is a Winston coat that is nice for shorter riders. Pricey, but beautiful!
I had luck with the AA Platinum coat. I’m 5’2" and have a short-ish torso and it fits great!
As a tall rider…I would say that all of the newer styles are cut pretty darn short
Tailored Sportsman also makes a lovely short. I’m 5’0" and their short fits me beautifully.
RJ Classics makes all their coats from size 00 to 16 in a short. I’m 5’1 and their short suits me nicely, plus they have lots of price points and interesting (but not wild) colorways.
Grand Prix for sure! I’m 5’1 on a good day and the only coats that fit me are Grand Prix. The RJ shorts are still too long for me.
I’m 5ft2, my jackets are Grand Prix, Pikeur and Spooks…all fit me great and are way too short for my barn mates! If money is no object, I have also tried on Animo and Horse Pilot and they also fit short
For the shorter folks, it’s more to do with the proportions than the bottom line, especially where the waist falls.
I currently have an RJ Classic and it is a really nice showboat for the price, but if you need to get a ton of length cut off and want a fancy more pricy coat then I would 100% recommend Charles Ancona. They do trims or customs and have all the newest features in their coats.
I’ve found the Gran Prix Techlite Rylie, Quinn, and the Madelyn to be a great fit. I love the stretch of the Madelyn.
The Tredstep solo has a very nice fit that works for shorter bodies individuals and is very tailored. The tailoring on this coat is beautiful.
A hint if you are short - choose a 4 button coat over a 3 button one. It gives the illusion of lengthening your torse.
For me, the Alessandro Albanese are very long, leaving me sitting on the back flap, which is a shame because I like the idea of the mesh coat.
